HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-08-18 Se~ectmens~Meeting 18 Au~. 1954 The meeting came to order at 8PM all members of the Board bei~ present. War~ant No. 33, to6alling $41,085.44 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous~meeting were read and approved. A delegation of taxi drivers was present and complained to the Board of statements reputed to have been made over the .. 'public address system on the Hyanuis Boat about the independent cabs.~After some discussion the board voted to write the said line advising that we felt statements of the type alleged were in poor taste. It was also voted to w~ite the DPU and request information on limiting the size and or number of busses on the island. Mr. Frank Hardy was present and commented on ~r. Gordon Folger~ statement before the Board'the previous week with r~ference to everybody in business paying their fair share of fees etc. Mr. S'oseph~Viera of the HighWay dept. w~ote the Board asking for a six months leave of absence, and it was voted to refer this matter to the Supt. of Streets for his information and advice, i~'i . ~ The ~anuacomet Wa~er Co. wa~s granted a pe'rmi~ to open Atlantic~ Ave. for the purpose of installing water service ~o res. of R~bert W~lsh. A letter ~rom Henry Kerr 9omment.ing on the people etc. was read and filed. '~ Twin CoSnsel Sanguine~ti '~eported by letter as regards the' title to the chil~rens beach area and as the Board was not clear in its mind on ~me of the items'it was voted to have, the town counsel obtain copies of the pertinent plans ~nd then meet and go over them with us. ~. A communication from the Sewer Dept. requesting approvalS'of the transfer of $1800.00 from the reserve fund to house conn. was referred to the finance commit~ee.~It was also voted to write the. sewer dept. and request t.hat they consider, changing their charges for connections so as to ma~e them more nearly cove~ the actual cost.. ~ ...... ~ The matter of allowi~' two or ~three fishermen to dredge in the upper harbor with large dredges for ho, rseshoe crabs same to be used for Conch bait was discussed and not approved. A question~ on the closed area in polp~'s harbor was ~aised and it was decided that the whole area should remain closed as posted to the taking of all shellfish.~ It was voted to have the S~cy confer with the Chief of Police as regards a day police officer in Sconset. An applicat~on of ~rthur ~ardoza for a taxi license was ~is- approved. An application ~or a dance from midgnight to 4 at't~ Dia-s skating rink on Labor day was referred to the Chief for his advices.
