The meeting came to o~ier am Selectmen at 8.~0 P~ having been
preceeded by a county Commissioners meeting, all present.
Warrant No. ~1 totalling $10,~25.88 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. ~.
Ninutes o£ the previous meeting were ~ead and approved.
'M~. George Jones was present and protested to the Board the
action of the Board in voting to hard 'surface a sidewalk in
front of property owned by him on the Cliff, stated that he
was opposed to asphalt on sidewalks. It was pointed out that
the Boa~i was tryirg to pave sidewalks where,used and needed
by the general public and that this particular area was used
by many people in the summer.
Mrs Rogert Gilbreth was present and protested a mimeographed
sheet of hotels and Inns which she ~stated the Information Burea
was handing out and which did not incude her establishemtn the
Anchor Inn, she stated thatshe had brought this to the
of the Public Relations Committee and that they had admitted
their error and were destroying these sheets and compiling new
ones. Mrs~ Gilbreth further charged that she had ~iscovered that
the Information Bureau was sending out private brouchers and
t~here was much comment and controversy over this matter, the
Board advising that it would look into this matter.
Various Citizens spoke on the problem of the type of~ visitor
we seem to have ~with us this season and various suggestions
were offered as cure alls,
Mr. Harry .Schaub was before the Board and protested the matter
of Mrs Duces dogs and advised that he had made a complaint to
the court which was being taken up the next day, stated that
~ the board could take s'ome action on this matter and quoted a
chapter and s~ction of the Gen. Laws. Ch. 140 sec. 157. It was
voted to take this up with the'Town Counsel.
Mf. Frank Sylvia was g~ant~ed a reuewal~0f his auctioneers lic.
It was voted to advise the supt. of street~ that it Was ou~
desire to have Main street cleaned up on Sunday mo~ning as
well as on other mo~nings du~ing the week..
Mr. 'Sydney Conway and M~j~Wesle~ simmons'were appointed'as
Sp.' Police. officers to serve with'out pay, both having been
approved-by the Chief of Police.
A communication was received from the airport Commission ~e~ues' lng
the Board to authorize and request additonal fire and police~
protection at the airport on Sept. I1 and 12th during the AOPA
fly in. It was so voted.
Mr. Leslie Lane was granted permission to hold.the Sidewalk~Art
Show on BPoad street as in previous years on Aug. 15, 17th & 18t
The Senior cla'ss was g~anted a per~nit ~for a dance at bhe Island
Marine Boat Yard'on Sat. Aug. ~th.
The Nant. Yacht club was g~anted a permit to'extend the Closing
hou~ of their Sat. rite dance ~xis Sat only till 12.30.
The Board was in~receipt of a release for damag~e caused the
Fountain at the foot of main street in the. amount of $120.00.
The board received a letter from Mrs William Hayden J~. com-
plaining of an iucenerato~ at the Nesbit Inn. btt~niug all rite.
Mr. Burgess stated that hewould take ca~e of this matter.
