HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-11-02 ' Selectmens Meeting ~ November 2nd, 1980 ~- The~ meeting came to order at 8 ?M having been pre~eeded by County Commissioners Meeting, all members of the board being present. 'Warrant number'48, totalling $186~.78 was p~esented by town accountant Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous mee~ng were read and approved. Mr. John Hardy was 'present in behalf of the Nantucket Veterans Housing Authority and requested the board to have a hydrant installed opposite the new homes recently constructed, Mr. Hardy state~ that he had consulted with the Fire Chief and Mr. Orpin of the water company and that they were in favor of the same. 'Fire Chief CartWright was als0 Present ~and retberated Mr. Hard. statements and further stated that Mr. Orpin had stated that ~ they would be willing to put an additional hydrant near the Lewis farm if the town so desired,' Mr. Cartwright thought this also a good plan as the next hydrant is up near the Ialand The board voted to request the water company to install both these new hydrants. ~ Mr. Jaeckle Supt of streets ~ms present and ~scussed various matters with relation to roads with the board. rS Mr. Manuel Souza was present and c~uplained about the conditon of the yard at the John Walsh garage. 'Mr. Holdgate was appointed a committee of one to plant some -more quohog seed in the harbor The board discussed the cost of getting various types of seed -to the island and voted to have the secretary write to our representative on the authority to see if some plan could be set up whereby this merchandise could be shipped free or on ~ a straight baggage check. , - Mr. Blount the shellfish warden 'was granted a temporary leave j of absence, and it was voted to instruct Mr. Miller the depurt~, , to cover both tom and Nantucket. The board also voted that all scallpp bags should be closed. -Mr. Donald Allen was 'granted a class 1 car dealers permit as agent of the Crossley Motor Car Co. The legion aux.'was granted a permit for a poppy day on Sat. the 4th of November. William Moyhinan was granted a permit to keep hens at lower pleasant street..
