The first order of business was a~meeting called With~the scallop fishermen of~the town to discuss the various regulations about 50 fishermen were present and an open discussion was held on all phases of the scallop fishing both commercial and Family. After considering the matter the board voted the following regulations. Fee for commercial Scallop license $5.00 limit six standard bags as provided by the town of Nantucket per man per day. The board voted to add to Section 8 of the Commercial .Scallop license ~ules and regulations (which pertains to the limits allowed) the following (.any scallps brought in, in other than the regulations bags as provided by the town of Nantucket shall be confiscated by the Shell fish Warden of the Town of Nantucket) Commercial season to s~art 1 November 1950 Family license fee to be .50~ season to begin 1 Oct. 1950 and the board voted to clearify these regulations wherein it is state that scallops may be taken.by hand only to mean~(in any manner whatsoever so long as motor or sail power is not used and by any implement except dredges.) The board authorized Warden Blount to or, er 1000 bags for the coming scallp season. Warrant No. 4~ to~alling $19,21~.8~ was Presented by Town Accountant Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. 0~ the question of a director of Civilian Defense it was thought that Mr. Earl Ray had been previously appointed and the Secretar was instructed to check with Mr. Ray and follow through on this matter with the state. The matter of the shutters at the Island Home were discussed and the question whether to remove~them or leave them up for the winter was left to be determined after consultation with Mr. John Putterick who had installed them. Dr. Collins reported that a Caroline Harland ~9 yrs who had broken her leg and was in the Hospital lived alone and he felt she should go down to the Island Home upon here release as she was all alone and would be unable to get around well. This matter was referred to the Public Helth Nurse. q~ne Board voted to install another street light on Center st. opposite Proodians and to so inform the Gas mud Electric Co.
