HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-09-07 Sele~tmena Meeting Sept. 7th 1950 ' ' The meeting came to order at 8.30 having b~en preceeded by a County Commissioners meeting. Ail members of the,board being present.~ The minutes 0f the~last meeting were read and approved~ Town Accountant Barrett presented Warrant No. 40 totalling $9,810.28 which was checked and approved by the Board. Mr. Jaeckle supt. Of stre~ets was present and requested that we transfer $950.00 from the Reserve fund to the Maintenance of State Highway, this money to be used to pay for immediate work and to be refunded by the state at a later date. The Board voted to request the Finance committee to make the transf~ The question of sidewalks was~also dis-~u'ssed by.thejboa~d,~ Mr. Jaeckle stating that the sidewalk on Westchester street was~ being built with town funds, and that it was bis understanding that the Finance committee had increased his appropriation New Sidewalks in Article $ of the annual warrant by $700.00 to cover this work. The board felt that although this.sidewalk was no doubt needed that in fairness to other taxpayers who und~ our present system have to share half the cost this should not have been done. A discussion was held on a sidewalk program · for another year and it was the consencus of.the meeting that the board would try in conjunction with the Supt. of Streets to set up a regular program for building new sidewalks with the town paying the whole cost and offer the same to the finance committee and the tov~ meeting this winter. A'letter was received from Mrs W. Morris with reference to her barn on N. Liberty street requesting the board to reconsider their previous decision to do nothing on this matter. This matter was again discussed and it was~voted to consult with ~Mr. Butler ~ of the sewer dept. for some additional in~ormatio on this matter. A petition was received protesting the number of dogs and the noise made by them at the residence of Mrs Duce ? on the~cliff. The board voted to refer this matter to the town counsel for .an opinion. A letter'was~ received from Harriet Holltster wtth referente to a claim for damages for land taken.in the construction of the Polpis road. This matter was referred to the town'counsel. A'letter was received from Elwtn Francis Jr. stating that he ' had been placed on the eligable list and requested appointment to the prewent vacency on the Police Dept. This matter was tabled for a week. A request was received from LeBaron Ray Veterans Benefits Agent requestln8 that the board~request the finance committee to ~ transfer $6,000.00 from the~reserve fund to his appropriation to carry him thru the year. It was so voted. Their being no further business the ~eeting adjourned at iOPM. , . cret ary
