HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-03-16Select~en,, Meeting, March 16th 1950 'Neeting came to order at 8.05 PM all members being present. , , Warrant~No ll totalling $1V,539.21 was presented by tovm accountan Barrett and chekced and approved by the board. Chief Mooney and Chief Cartwright were present and discussed, with the board new radio equipment and the matter of a new cruiser for the Police dept. Chief Mooney presanted a letter from Sheriff Tullach stating that new FM equipment was being ~nstalled in all stations to avoid various difficulties experienced with the old frequency and recommended the type of equipment they were installi in other counties. The matter of a police cruiseO was discussed and various views were aired as to what,type it should be. It was finally voted that we purchase a regular type and~that the selectmen adveritse for bids for same the bids to be in by ~:!arch 30th. The Police Chief pointed out that he,had been advised that the old frequency and equipment could be left'in the present cruiser and at the station and that~it would be possible to have this car availabel for the Sconset patrol if the board so desired. The board voted that we so instruct the Chief. It was also voted to have the secretary of the selectmen contact the Harvey Radio Corp. to determine the price of the radio equipme 0n~the question of a new res~cutator for the police dept. the fire chief stated that~the'type they had~was very efficient and recomme highly. It was voted to have the secretary contact the company whc distributes this unit. The E. and J. Co. of New England and deter~ the price etc. of this unit. Mr. G~orge Burgess Sr. was again present and aired his views for the benefit of all present on the shellfish industry in general with relation to Nantucket. It was Voted to have,the minutes of the-previous meeting read at each meeting before any new business was taken up. Dennis D~as was granted a.per~.t,to run dances at his 'skating riu~ on S2turdays evenings throughout the year. Mr'Jaeckle'Supt. of streets was present and discuas'~8 with~e board,various phaese of the road program, he presented a letter from Er. Sellew of the Dept.,of Public works informing that the ~oney appropriated for the Polpis Rd. would do 1000 feet'of new surface from the end of last years proj.ect and so~e grading on the cut off but no paving on the cut off. After some discussion it was voted to have Mr. Jaeckle contact Mr. Sellew and determine what arrangement could be made'with ~ view of completing the cut off. It was voted to hold a special meeting a~ ll;30'A$ on monday the at the'Selectmens Rooms for, the purpose of viewing various sites proposed for the new highway and sewwer dept! bldg. ~r. Jaeckle ws req~ested to invite the Sewer Commiss.ioners to be with us. ~orin and Son requested a permit to mover Allens Nobader_Lounge ~ alond old south rd to macey lane 2nd along macey lane to its new site. After some 8~scussion as to possible damage to the new road with special reference to new fill areas on old south road, it was voted that a permit be granted to ~orin and Son to move said bldg along Macey Lane but in no part over Old South Rd. further that said applicant should file an agreement with the to~m to repaif any damage that might occurr to said Macey Lane as a result Morin and Son were also granted perm ts to move a b~dg from 01d N. V¥~arf along lower Nain st. to Wash street and along Wash. St. to the South Beach. ng mt. ~ded !ne - Oth Morin and Son permit to move 2 Cottages across S.~Beach.street to~the. Harbour Hou.~e grounds. They were also granteU a renewal of their pe~it for Sunday firing of r. ifles in the ~cinity of Surfside~ and on Pabroitic Holidays as color guard etc. , ~ The Tree Commission wss~grant~d ~'germit to ~ak~ S pla~ti~g of shs~e trees ~round the edge of the Q~aker Buring ground on Quake~ Rd. and Ma~aket Rd. A~co~nicsbion w~s received from the First~CSn~. Church ~e~ues a~street ligh~ at'A6sdemy tane~ne~r the church. Ib was voted~to inform the c~ittee that we would look in~o this ~atter on next tour on this type of applications. . Jesse Eldridge~snd~Cl~r~nce~ swift were granted renewals of,~their Special~ Police appointments. The ~b0'arU' went 'int~ executive session st~ 10.30 Pm ~nd took up bhe msbter of sppointmens bo various town and county positions the following appointments were made.
