The mlnutes of the meetin~ Of October B, 1969 ~ere ~ead,~ Mr,' Hale.y commented on the fact that for the last.three weeks the discussion regarding the appointment of two,Police Sergeants for the.local Police Department had not been ~nclud~-¥~-~: ~n the minutes and made a motion . that this should be noted in the minutes of the Executive Session, it was seconded'and so voted: Mr. No, cross'made a motion that the minutes be accepted as read, with this exception, it was seconded and so voted. Warrant No. 41 in the amount of $152,581;21 was approved by the Boa'rd. CHRISTMAS TREE DISPLAY One bid was received on the Christmas Tree.. Display - Article 26, from Marine Lumber Company in the amount of $625.00 for the trees 'and various prices for the'bulbs and light sets. Mr. Whelden made a motion that this bid be accepted,'it was seconded and so voted. :. .~ r~ WALNUT LANE - Article 56 - 1968 Only one bid~was received from Walter. F. Glowacki in the amount of ~950.00. Since this bid exceeded the appropriation, a motion was made to re-advertise this for bids, it seconded and so vGted. VACATION . Mr. Edwin F "Scully, Agent of the office of.veteran's Benefits requested his annual two weeks vacation beginning October 20th through October 31,1969 inclusive. The Boardvoted to grant · this request. "'-' ~- ' MASS. EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS A communication was received from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Mass. Emer'gency.Gommission advising the Board that the Commission'is charged with examining the entire communications capability'within the Commonwealth and requ'ested that they pass this.information on to the Chief of Police and the Chief 'of the Fire Dept. and the Civil Defense Director. '. -'~ BRIC¼ SIDEWAL~S A request for brick sidewalk's at #144,.146·and 148 Main Street Was received from W 'Stanley .Truby,~Marie Varin and' Gabrielle V. Atwood. Mr. Norcross made a motion that this request be put-on the Sidewalk List and.to have Supt. Jones'make an estimate of the cost, it was seconded and so voted. .~ .... DRIVING OVER MOORS ~ letter Was received frGm E. V.~Huggins asking 'whether or not the Town could legally restrict cars from driving over the moors. "He suggested that the Town print a booklet to cover the. police powers and other constitutional powers which lie with the Board and voters. After some discussion,'it was decided to check with Roy 8anguinetti, Town Counsel, on this matter.~ DANCE PERMIT Mrs. Judith Bridges requested permission, on behalf Of the Youth Fellowship of the North Church, to hold a dance on November 1, 1969, between ?:30 and 11:30 P.M., and Police Officer Gibbs has agreed to patrol the dance ~ There being no objection, this request was granted° · EXPEORER POST 95 A letter was received from the E. xplorer Post 95 requesting permission to store their boats.in the garage type.building in Siasconset' for the winter. Mr. Whelden made a motion to table this request until it is known whether or not the Town will be using this building this winter. PUBLIC HEALTH WEEM A booklet was received from the Mass. Dept.'of Public Health advising the Board that this week was ~eclared Public Health Week. CIVIL SERVICE ~'A letter was received from the Division of~,Oivil~$ervice ~ ~ln retard to..a competiti~e~p~otional:'examin~tion for the of Police Sergeant~~ Nantucket Police Dept. 'The Board tabled matter untO! they could discos~it with Supt. Jones, who is now off-~ MASS~ TAXPAYERS FOWNDAT!ON INC.'~A letter was received from the Mass.~ Taxpayers Foundation, Inc., requesting that 1968 payment be supplied on the enclosed form..The Board voted to turn this letter over to the Town Treasurer. ~..: ~ ,..~ ~ ? RWLES A~D REGWLATIONS A letter ~as' received from the Dept. o~ Public Health including a copy of the rules and regulations concerning sanitation in meat and poultry processing plants. The'Board voted to turn this matter over to Franklin Lamb, Inspector of Sl~ughtering.'~. , OUR £SLAND HOME' A letter'was ~eceived from the Rate Setting Commission · statin~ that ~he In-Patient rates for Our Island Home ..was set at ~13.84. The Board suggested that this letter be shown to Mrs. Marjorie Clute.in case she did not mec~ive a copy of the same~~ There being no further busi6ess~, Mr. NorO~oSS made a motion that the meeting be adjoumned, it was seconded and so voted.
