' War~ant No.-35, totalling $27,155.55 was approved. The minutes'cf.'the meeting"of AGgU~t 27, made a motion to approve the minutes as read,' it was seconded and so voted. MIACOMET LAND TO BE TAKEN BY EMINENT DOMAIN Mr. Parker Gray,' Chairman of the Conservation Commission asked what the situation was in regards to land at Miacomet which is to be taken by eminent domain. The Board told him that Mr.'Shugrue had presented a plan and layout of this . land and now they were in a position to decide what land they wanted or could take from this plan. U.8.C.G. LAND AT MADA¼ET Mr. Parker CraV told the Board that the Conservation Commission could assist in obtaining the land at no cost.. to the Town. The Board said that st~ps had already been taken to obtain this land for Park and Recreation use and they were waiting to hear from the GSA on this matter. ~ANTUCKET BOAT~ INC. A Supoena No. 30415 - Nantucket'Boat,'Inc. vs~' ' Town of Nantucket, from the office of Fern, Anderson and.Donahue, Hyannis, Mass., was read to the effect that this case would be brought up on the first Monday of November. Mr. Norcross made a motion to . refer this matter to Town Counsel, it was seconded and so voted.- YELLOW LINES Mr. Oones presented two requests for yellow lines - One fo: ~rs. Yerkes, 18 India St., in front ~f her property and the other for Mrs. Raradis, 75 Orange St., for a 'driveway; A motion was made.and seconded to refer both these requests to Sup~,~'Oones to be.~eviewed. !'NO PARKING" Mrs.'Erwin R. Hilts requested "No Parking" property to provide easy access to her.front door. recommend this since it.would set a poor precedent. 'He stated that he did reco,mend that the corner of Darling & Fair Sts ' have.8 ft..of the curb painted yellow; that one'yellow line on Darling and on~ on Fair, which are no longer needed, be removed. The Board made was seconded, to go along with'Supt. Jone's recommendation. TAXI STAND Chief Howes asked Supt. Oone~~ eemove the Taxi'Stand on the corner of Federal and Main Bts~ for the winter. Mr. Hal ey made a motion to refer this matter back to Chief., Howes and have him submit-a..w~ittan request,'it was seconded and so vote, POLICE PERMIT ~ Chief Howes requested that carl Balonick,' Mile~tGne ~oad, '8oonset, be appointed qs a Policeman to replace the vacancy made James Duarte who is now working for the D.P.W. This reque.s~ was granted Mr. Haley made a motion that the Selectmen should be informed of..all'the officers .who have resigned. He said that since the Board act as Police Commissioners they should know who is on the Police fo~oe~ This motion was seconded and so voted.. COMPLAINTS A letter was received.from Mrs. Edna Loines complaining of. the constant howling of dogs to the east and north of 3 Flora St 'Bhe' also commented on the condition of.the macadamized sidewalks~being difficult to walk on because of the littlestones that requested that these sidewalks be,retarred. She commented on the blight of caterpillar'nests'all over the Island and requested that this situation be remidied. The Board referred these complaints to the ~ Dept. of Public Works and the Dog Officer. ISLAND SIGHTSEEING TOuRs A letter waa~received f~om Mr. complaining about the poor hospitality, rude treatment and illegal"' appropriation of monetary'.funds which occurred to him and his family on the vessel Siasconset on August 18, 1969. Mr, Norcross made a motion,to write to the above; stating that this is not the type of treatment that is given to the people who visit Nantucket. He also stated that a copy of the letter would be sent to the Chamber'of Commerce. This motion was seconded and so voted.
