Chairman Holdgate at 8:00 P.M., with all members of the Board being

2.~!he minutes of the meeting of ,August i3, 196~_were~ r~ad and approved.
3. CHILDREN~S~BEACH CREOSOTED PILINGS 'James Cranston was present to
complain about burns his children had received from the new creosoted
· pilings that had been put in the water at Children's Beach and asked
if something could be done about this situation. He was informed
that the Dept. of Public Works would put some slats around then thu's
preventing the children tb come'in contact with the creosote. Mr.
Cranston also commented about the'jellyfish around the beach and that
one of his children had been stung in the face by the jellyfish,~
q. SURFSIDE EAST ,A message was received from the Clerk of Court~.to the
effect that the application For a restraining order from Surfside East
had been denied by the Court, at Boston, Justice McLaughlin sitting
on August 15, 1969.
5. MADAHET U.S.C.G. PROPERTY A communication had been received From the
Comm. of Maas. regarding surplus property at Madaket. The GSA
indicated they were in favor of Nantucket obtaining this propertV
andoffered any assistance which might be needed. The Board suggested
that Supt. Robert M. Jones discuss this matter when he discusses how
the Polpis Harbor situation is coming along which refers back to JulV
-Gt~h~ They also suggested that it might be well to have,this person ,
home to Nantucket to discuss these problems all together.
6. LOW COST HOUSING A letter was received from John J. Daniels,
complaining about the landlords asking exorbitant rents forerun dowH ,
houses.~'The Board made a motion to refer this lettmr to the Committee
on Housing AuthoritV.
7. TREES INFESTED BY wEB WORMS A communication was received from Mr~
Charles P. Rotter complaining about the web worms on the~various
trees in Nantucket and requested that some steps be taken to clear
up.this situation. Supt. Jones said the Dept~t of Public Works had
been spraying all the Town trees in the last two weeks. He felt
that these trees were not being killed bV these worms as they had' -
had enough leaves to give the trees food storage to last until n~xt
.season.
8. AUCTIONEER'S LIOENSE A request for an auGtioneer's license was ~
received from James M. Mayo so that the Explorer Post may conduct.
Auctions. This request was granted.
9. YELLOW LINE -~NO PAR½ING A request for a i5 ft. yellow iin~
received from A. ~eith Easton & Sons~ to be placed in front of their
.,-~ new cottage which was built in back of their office. The Board
referred this matter to the Dept. of Public Works. Supt. Jones felt
~.this was a reasonable request and it was so granted.
lO. UNDERGROUND POWER LINE - WEWEEDER AVE. Mr. Arnold A. wiii x
requested that the Board locate Weweeder Ave.,~bs.they~blanned to
install an underground cabie~from the Mason Thompson property,
at Surfside, to their property at Surfsida. The Board decided to
refer this matter to the next County Commissioner's meeting, Sept.
ii. D.P.W. PUBLIO HEARING A letter was received from the Dept. of Public
Works, in Boston, announcing there would be a public hearing for
Nantucket County on September 4, 1969, at ]:~0 P.M~. in the Town
.Offices. The Board voted to advertise the above in the August 28th
edition of the Inquirer & Mirror.
i2. SEPTIC TANMs - LEACH!N8 PITS A communication was received from ths
Dept. of Public Health relative to the use of Septic~Tanks and Leach-
ing Pits. After considerable discussion, the Board voted to send
copies of this letter to Arthur Butler, Plumbing Inspector and to
the PiaGning Board.

quested a No Rarking space of about 30 ft in.front of his house,
~Easton House,~.so Taxies would have room to unload~guests coming to
.~his house ~ ~He stated he supplied at least seven parking spaces in
back of his property ~o benefit the Town and felt he should be
allowed at least pneparking.space in front of~his house for the
~' benefit of, his'guests...After considerable discussion, the Board
voted to take this matter up in Executive Session'
There being no furthe'r~ business, ~he meeting adjourned at 8:50
and went into Executive Session. ~ ,'~ ....
