~h~e' meeting was called t6 order by'chairman .o°P.M.
with all members of the Board being present.
~The'minutes 'of the ~eeting of Oune q, 1969 were read.y'Mr. Norcross
made a motion to approve the minutes as read, it waa seconded and so
voted.
Mr_ Su~liv'an a~ske~d the Board if Town Counsel had made any progress
on taking~y eminent domain on Articles 63 a~ and requested.an
answer at next weekts meeting. The Board told Mr. Sullivan that theV
have to have a plan drawn up on this before any action can be taken and
Mr. Oosiah Barrett is working on this plan; also Mr. Shugrue is working
on this too.
Mr. Oohn McLaughlln thanked the Board for repairing his sidewalk
and asked if anV progress had been made on his request for a street
light. 'The Board told him that there were three lights in this area
now and theV did not feel there was need for another light.at this time.
Mr. Christman asked if his request for a liquor license was still
in progress. He ~lso mentioned that the awings and seesaw had been
taken from the Francis Street beach and wanted to know if theV would
be put back fo~ the enjoyment of the children. Mr.'Oones, Supt. of the
Dept. of Public Works told him that the swings and seesaw would be
put back on that beach.
Mr. Parker Gray told M~. Oones that at some time someone ha~
pushed the benches which were placed at the 1st bridge on the Madaket
~oad into the pond. He said that Mrs. Mitchell and her f~ends had~
spent monaV to put the cement benches the~e and he felt that the Dept.
of Public Works should t~y to ge.t them out of the Pond and put them
back where theV had been placed. Mr.'Donas said he would see what.the
Dept. could do to ~eplace these ~enches.·
One bid was received from O. F. McDermott Co. on sewer and D~ain
Equipment. It exceeded the amount of monaV appropriated for these
articles and since unit prices were atated in the bid, the Board
turned this over to Mr. Oones to studV this bid and to pumch~e the
most essential items at this.time.
The following requests for renewal of licenses Were received and.it
was voted that these take the course p~escribed bV ~a~and be p~operlV
inspected before licenses could be granted. It was seconded end so voted

Mrs. Oudith Bridges requeate'd permission to hold a dance at Bennett
Hall on Oune 21, 1969 from 8:00 - 12:00 R.M., with Donald Gibbs as
Special Police. A motion was made to §~ahtt~hia request, it was seconded
and so voted.
Miss Mary oean Levy'requested Permission to hang a sign at qq
Main St. A motion was ~ade to grant this'request subject to the
approval of the Historic Oistricts Commission, it was seconded and so
voted.
Miss Haren Lamb requested permission to hold a Graduation Ball on
Oune 13,'1969 from 8:30 P.M. to l:O0 A.M. and would arrange to have
a Special Police on duty. A motion was made to grant this request, it
was seconded and so voted.

open on Juiy 4th and September ist and Sam Levine dba The Nobby Ciothes
Shop requested permission to remain open on Hoiidav~during the summer.
A motion was made to grant these requests, it was seco,nded';.and so voted.
~.Chief'Irvin~ T.~'Ba~tlett requested permission t~attend the New
England Fire Chief Convention from June'22 through Oune 26, 1969. He
informed the Board that Ass't. Chief John Hmmblin would be in charge
during his absence. It was voted to grant this request.
A re'q,]est four i",.:. 'a street light on Derrymore Road Ext. was
received from Mr.'Charles Oliver and Mr. Blackwood. The ,Board felt
that this was a reasonable request and said that they would look at it.
The' BOard received a iette~ from GeraId H. Abrams regarding the
condition of the Tennis Courts on Nantucket Isiand. ~ He suggested
planting trees around the Jetties Tennis Gourts to serve as a windbreak
or to buiid a new Tennis Court in the High Schooi area.
A~ request was received from the Embiem Appiiance Service to use
Coal Aiie¥ in the'rear',:~f their businees as a pubiic way as he has
difficuit¥ in the parking probiems near his business estabiishment at~
2-A South Water St. After~ discussing this probiem the Board voted
to tabie this matter~ untii next week so they can view the situation.
