The ~eeting was Called to 'order at 8:00 P.M. by. Chairman Holdgate
with all members of the Board being present·
'Mr" Lowell read the minutes of the meeting of May 7th, which were
approved ~s read. ~ .
Mr~ Robert W. Lloyd was present and asked to transfer'his liquor
license from the New Sea Cliff Inn at 31'35 Cliff Road to LaCrepe of
Nantucket, Inc., Harbor Square, Nantucket, Mass. Mr. Norcross made a
motion that this take the course prescribed by law, it was seconded bv
Mr. Whelden and so voted. This transfer is to be advertised in the
local newspaper for two weeks.
Mr. Robert Leske'was present.and said he would make his objections
to this transfer in two weeks when the proper advertising is completed.
Mr. Robert F. Moonsy re'quested ~ermission to operate a horse and
surrey during the week of June 30th to July 3rd and to play recorded
music from the production "Carnival"~ in connection with the gala opening
of the Theatre~aummer season of~1969. Mr. Norcross made a motion that
this request be granted, it was seconded by Mr. HaleV and so voted.
Mrs. Olive 6arrabrant submitted a request from Abbott E. Oohnson
for his annual vacation the week of May 26th and June 2nd. Mr. HaleV
moved that this be granted, Mr. Whelden seconded the motion and it was
so voted.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars requested permission to parade under
arms on Monday, May 26, 1969, Memorial Day. Mr. Whelden made a motion
to grant this request, Mr. Haley seconded the motion and it was so voted.
A lette'~ was received from the Con}m. of Mass. regarding the sale of
alcoholic beverages on Monday, May 26th, Memorial Day. Mr. Lowell made
a motion that this be advertised in the local newspaper.
James M. Glidden requested permission to hang a sign over the side-
walk at his office on South Water Street. He stated the application had
been made to the Bistoric Districts Commission for approval as to form
of said sign. Mr. Norcross made a motion that this request be granted
provided it was accepted by the Nantucket Historic Commission, this was
seconded and so voted.
An application for a Taxi Permit was received from Ooseph A. Cahoon
which wes approved.

for"While Away°'Guest House and Mr.' Paul 6. Murphy for the"Nantucket Inn]
It was voted that these be inspected before licenses can be issued.
Mrs.~Harriet De~ter requested permission on beh'alf of the American
Legion Auxiliary to sell Poppies on Thursday, May 22nd, Friday,~Mav 23rd
and Saturday, May 2~th.. Mr. Haley made a motion to grant this request,
Mr. Norcross seconded the motion and it was so voted
A letter was received from Timothy A' Clark complimenting the Board
for the enforcement of Fire Laws for Lodging house.s.
Mrs. Margaret M. Roche Submitted a letter Of resignation as Town and
County Trreasurer to be effective Oune 30, 1969. Mr. Norcross made a
motion to accept this resignation with regret and Suggested that the
Board write a'letter of appreciation to Mrs ' Roche for the many years of
service rendered to the Town. This was seconded and so voted.
Applications'for appointment to the office of Town and CoUnty
Treasurer were received from Mrs. Theresa C. Bedell and Mrs. Marcia M.
Walker. The Board felt that these should be tabled until further study
has been made as there may be more applicants for this position.
Mr.~John Sullivan asked the Board.if it was possible~ to have a
Special Town Meeting to elect a new Town Treasurer. The Board told him
that it was the policy to hire a t.emporary Town Treasurer until the veer
