~'-fhe me'~ting was Called to O~der a~ 8:3o F'.M. with all members of
the Board being present ~with the exception of Mr. Allen E. Norcross.
The minutes Of the meeting of~Ap~il'3Oth were read and approved~
Miss Cathe~in'e Flanaganwas Pres'ent,,representing the Ounior Class,
and requested permission to have a Banner placed at the head of Main
Street between the Pacific National Bank and Murray's-Toggery Shop to
advertise the Mav Prom. Mr. ~aleV made a motion that this request be
granted, it was seconded and so voted.
Dr. Schenelle presented a letter regarding the no~ice of last week
which mentioned the killing of dogs running at large. After a len~thv
discussion, the 8oard assured Dr. Schelle that it was not their intent
that dogs should be killed but to make the public aware of the fact so
they would restrain their dogs from running at large. Stuart Day
commented that since this notice had been published, he has noticed
that there are less dogs on the street than there have been in the past.
A request for a renewal of his Pig and Chicken Permit was~received
from Frederick C. Coffin, Or. It was voted to grant this permit.
Merrill Haskins brought up the subject of inspection of Guest Houses
It was his feeling that if evervone had to follow the rules set up for
Guest Houses, there would not be enough rooming houses to accommodate
the working people who come to the Island in the summer and seel lodging.
The Board stated that it was a State law that governed this ruling
and there was notbigg that could be done about it. They verified the ~
fact that this ruling applied to those rooming houses who have five or
more guests.
A letter was received from the Comm. of Mass. with reference to.the
Nantucket Anglers Club, Inc., which.had to be signed bv the 8oard of
Selectmen.
The following requests for renewal of lodging house,-,lic'enses were
received and it was voted that they be inspected before the licenses .~
can be issued: '
India House - Stephen 3. deBaun
The Ivy Lodge - E.T. Pollard
Corner House - 'Alice Erickson
Royal Manor - Leon M. Royal.
The Karts - Mrs. Oohn E. Kerr
A letter and sketch was received from Charles F. Savle requesting
permission to dig across the old railroad track abreast his property
in.back of Consue to remove an underground cable as a new power line
has been put in and there is no need-for-this underground cable.- It
was voted to approve~!this request.
A request for a'renewal of a Taxi Permit was received from' Carlton
West which was approved.
A letter from Austin Tvrer, asking the BOard to have some bricks
relayed on the sidewalk on India St. This matter was turned over to
the D.P.W. for their attention.
A request for a brick sidewalk to be placed in front of the Little
Gallery wee received from the Kenneth Taylor Galleries. This was turned
over to the D.P.W. for their attention.
~ petition was received requesting to have a light placed on the pol~
on the east end of Williams St. near the rear of Aimie'a Bakery. The
Board said they would review this matter and make a decision at e later
date.

Department would use this'vehicle.' The Board informed him that~it will
be taken to 'Bconset for the present,until a decision has been made

~Bids were,'reoeiVed fromm'Nantucket Construction Go. and Walte~ F.
61owacki for Patching and since Walter F. 61owacki was the lower bidder
the Board voted to award this contract to him.
~ .~.~ There being,no further business,' the Board went into Executive
Session at 9:30 P.M. ~
