Mr. Lo'ell read the minutes of the ~eeting of April ~Jrd, which
were epproved.*-~'.~.'-'~- ~. ~
'~ "Chairman Holdg'ate. welcomed Mr. Hobart M.~Oones, the new Supt. Of
th~ Dept. of Rublic Works to the members of the Board, the newspaper
staff and all that were present.
Mr. Michaal~ordon discussed 'the~subject of dogs'~unning loose,
telling of the various~incidents which happened between his dogs and
a dog owned bv Manuel Souza. After a lengthV conversation'between
M~. Gordon, Mr. Stuart DaV, Dog Office~ and the Board of Selectmen
motion was made to have'the Dog Restriction notice published in the
local newspaper one time and, as stated bv its statutes, to have this'
posted in two place in Town simplv to make the people aware that'.this
is the Chapte~ that our Restraining Order is derived from. Mr. HaleV
seconded the motion and it was so.voted.
Mr. Michael Driscoll"~sked the Board if thev had heard anything
further on A~ticls 21,'requesting the sum of $5,310.0q, which he feels
is the balance due on his smplovment ~greement.~ He suggested that
the Board advise Mr.'Rov E. Sanguinetti, Town Counsel, of the background
of this situation.. After. a lengthv discussion a Wotion was made to .
take this matter up in Executive Session, it was seconded and so voted.
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Clark and Mr. Francis McSarvev, of Sconset,
appeared before the Board, asking what was meant bv th~ Notices of an
underground cable going through their propertv. Thev said theV
thought this had been done last fall. The Board informed them that
thev. had received a reques~ from the Telephone Companv, therefor these
notices were sent out.
Mr. Francis McSrath said that Hoope~ Farm Road and Trotte~'s Lane.
had no light poles the~e and since there are a lot'of hou~se~in that
area, he thought it would be a good idea to have some street lights
in that location.
A lette~ was received'from ~ha Island Service Go., emplo~ing~
Oohn H. ½ittila, O~.: as 'Dock Maste~ and Joseph Lopes~as Assistant
DockMaste~ and asked that thev be appointed as Special Police.~
Mr. Lowell made a motion that this be forwarded to the Chief of Polio9
as he has alresdv approved Oohn H. ½ittila, Or~as Special Police.
This was seconded and so voted.
~A letter was ~eceived from Mrs. Sallie Tupancv thanking the Board
"and the Bov Scouts for the cleanup program that hsd been carried on
in the Upper Cliff area but since that time there has been more' ..
accumulation of debris. It was voted to send this letter to the~
Dept of Public Works for thei~ attention. ,-
A letter was received from Louis R. Avotte~reque~ting permissisn
to sell bas, at the Red Men's Hall on Saturdav evening, Mav 3rd,
at a supper and visitation of the Wauwinet~Tribe'of Red Men come from
off Island. A motion was made to approve this request and it was so
voted~ "
Renewal for Taxi Permits ~or 1969 were received f~om the following:
Bertha O'Neil, Lawrence Avers, Eugene Viers and Alvin S. Pete~ssn.
A motion was made to grant these permits, it was seconded and so voted.
A latter was received from Mvles Reis requesting' a renewal of ~
his Ounk Dealers permit-. A motion was made to grant this request,
it was seconded and so voted.
A letter was received from Mr. Robert W. Llovd for a renewal
of a Common Victualer's license for LaC~epe of N~ntucket, Inc. Since
these premises have alreadv been inspected, a motion was made to
approve this request, it was seconded and so voted.

It was voted to write all'Department heads and inform the~ that~
vacation time is ~etermined from January 1 to December ~lst and .' "
