14 August, 1968
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen came tO Order'at 8i00 all members of the Board being present.

was checked and approved by the Board. ~.~
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. Peg Kelley was present and presented a letter from a'Charles Kay relative
to yacht marina pollution and control thereof.
Mr. Allen IV. Holdgate, Shellfish Warden and Harbor Master, spoke on
facilities at the Nantucket Boat Basin and stated that he felt Harbor
conditions were better this year than in other years but some of the
conditions complained of were as a result of dredging up old material
from the Harbor bottom and that he had talked to lifeguards at the various
Harbor beaches and other parties, and they had not noted any sewerage
condition.~ Mr. Holdgate stated that he had sent for water sample bottles
and would take test samples as soon as they are received.
This matter ,vas discussed at some length with various parties present,
and the Board was in receipt of a letter from Sherburne Associates stating
what they had done and that they would be glad to cooperate in any manner
the Board might desire to correct or control this problem.
Contracts for the new Blue Cross/Blue Shie~'d-coverage were received and signed
by the Board.
The Board signed the warrant for thg State Primary'to'be held Sept.' 17th.
Mrs. Violet"Clarkson and Mrs. Jo~n Aguair were present and r'e~uested any ·
information the Board could provide on their request for permission to
have a snack bar of some type at the Children's Beach at Frances Street'
Chairman Norcross advised 'that the B0a~d had made'no decision on this at
this time, and that it was possible we would ~ave to seek Town bleeting
approval before any action'was taken. --':7'~:'~
~r. Robert Christman was present and spoke'on the number of ca~ presently on
the Island and suggested some steps should be taken to reduce same or ·
limit the number of vehicles that any one family could have. This matter
was discussed somewhat':an~.fio.decision made. ..
Notice ,vas received from the Office ~f Senator Kennedy and Congressman Keith
advising of the approval of a planning grant in the amount of $27,512.00.
Alvin S. Peterson Was~granted a Taxi Permit and Thomas bicGrath Was g~anted a
renewal of his Junk Dealer's License; ..-
'A letter was received from Richard B. Corkish,"Jr. submitting his resignation
from the Conservation Commission and it was voted to accept his resignati(
with regret.
