HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-08-06Selectmen's Meeting . 6.A~gust, 1968 The regular Weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen came to order at 8:15 P.M., having been preceeded by a County Commissioners Meeting. All members of the Boards were prepent with the exception of Mr. Lowell. The minutes of the previous meetin'g were read and approved. ' iVarrant No, 33,'totaling $26,142.14, was presented by Town Accountant Barrett' and was checked and approved b~ the Board.'~ Dr Gerry Schnelleand ~lrfJ. B.'Hartranft;'Or. were present and discussed with the Board the matter of pollution in the Harbor which they claimed was. b~ing caused by the boats in the new Boat Basin area.'- This matter was discussed at some length and the Board voted to write a letter to the 'ltarbor Master instructing him to take water samples at various locations in the Harbor and also to write to Sherburne Associates with reference to information on the steps they are taking to control this matter. IVilliam E. Carlton was granted a permit to hold two dances at the Boys' Club 'on August 10th and 17th from 9 to 12; they to advise the name of the Special Police Officer to be on duty. 3 " .... : ' ", .: Mr. Brinton Young Of Monomoy'requested a license'to take P~loroid pictures 'of people on Main Street and offer them for sale. This matter was taken under advisement., ;, ,' " ~lr. B J. ltolmes of Fair Street was present on the ma~ter of the action taken.. at his request to move a street light from in front of the ~Voodbox to a new location at the corner of Darling Street.. The Board was also in " receipt of letters from residents in the area requesting that an additiona~ light be installed 'at the corner of Hillers Lane; it was so approved.' The Board was in receipt or.various Suggestions made'by'the Siascon~et Civic Asso ~as regards traffic in and around the village square in Siasconset. It was voted to table any action on these matters for one week. A letter was received from Mrs John Roche relative to speeding on C~0oked Lane and it was-voted to have a "Slow Children" sign erected in this area.~ Mrs'"John Hindl~y wrote reiati~e to the St: Pau%~s'Church Fete to be held on August 15th asking approval to have Fair Street closed from Rays Court to Moores Lane and it was so approved. :' ,_,:'"- ~ ~ " The Board approved a pole 10cation'for the Nantucket Gas ~ Electric Co. on upper IVest Chester Street near the property of Howard Jelleme. ,There being no'further business;' the Board went into Executive Session and adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
