The regular weekly meeting of the Board came to order at 7:30 P.M. with all
members of the Board being present.
Warrant No. 21, totaling $61,380.00, was Presented by Town Accountant Barrett
and was checked and approved by the Board.
The minutes of the previous meeting~were read and approved~
Mr. Parker Gray of the Conservation Commission was present and spoke on th~
use of calcium chloride and it's possible effect on drinking water/and
:,~ stated that he understood that the situation had occurred on the Vineyard
near the Airport where'their fresh water wells had been contaminated by
the use of calcium chloride for snow removal. He said he ~,merely
calling this matter to the Board's attention for their information.
Mr. Gray also reported that the Conservation Commission's cattail ~emgvat
program for this year is now finished, lie asked if they could have the
use of the D.P.W, Mosquito Digger for a few hours to do som~ finishing up
of the work around the first bridge in Madaket and the same was approved.
The Board commented that' they ~ere still receiving complaints'from
Mr. Thomas Coffin of water in his cellar ~hich he felt was the result of
the Consue Springs project, and it was suggested that the Conservation
- Commission make an effort to visit and go over this matter' with Mr. Coffin
Mr. Albert Silva was present on the !'No Parking on North Beach Street" which
'the Board had voted at'it's last meeting, lie stated that h~-felt he
should have some parking rights for his business on No. Beach Street.
Mr. Merrill Haskins'of the same area was present'and felt that no parking'
was a good idea and presented,a Petition signed by eleven residents of the
area in favor of retaining the no parking restriction.",'
~r. Silva stated that th~re'~hould be so~e parking on the west side in
front of his parking area, which is further up from his Garage.
This matter was discussed, pro,,and con, and the Board voted~later in the
meeting to;make no change iff/itemS previous ruling. ;:~;~:~,~,~.
Mr. Richard Kalman was presend' in behalf of the Legion of 40 ~ 8.'and was
granted a permit for a parade:, on 91 June. ~!~,,, ." .
The following licenses were applied for and approved: Norman Claxton' of Sankat'
Head Golf Club for a Caddy ~amp;.Arthur J. Fulcher for silent movies at
Legion Hall weekdays only;,_Allen,~s Lobster Grill, recorded'music and organ
.weekdays~only; Christian Sche~l dba Sche11's Steak lto~se, recorded music
'and piano, weekdays only;'JosephA. Cahoon, Taxi Permit; Marion Chase,
common victualler, soft drink and milk and ice cream. ,, "
~r. Donald'allen~'~a~ present 'and. spoke on th~"fa~t that there were onl'~' two
Motor Vehicles Inspection Stations on t~e Island ;o service all of the
and outlined,.,for the Boa~d~an~incident whereby Motor Vehicle. Inspector
had removed,the stickers from:his Inspection Station ~ithout any previous
warning, which had resulted,in,-a,,situation whereby innumerable,,Island motor
vehicles were le£t'without;:stickers. Mr. Allen £elt that all of the'local
garages should be licensed as Inspection Stations and requested the Board
write to Rep. Desrocher requesting that he contact the Registrar of ~otor
Vehicles to this affect, to which the Board .agreed.
There'being no further business, the ~gard went into Executive Session and
adjourned at 10:00
