24 April 1968
The weekl~ meeting of the Selectmen came to order at 7:30 P.M. with all members
of the Board being present.
Warrant No. 18,.totaling $S1,~80.68, Was presented to the B6ard by Town
Accountant Barrett and was checked and approved by the Board.
The minutes of the previous meeting~were read and approved.~
~Ir. iV~arr~n Valero' was"present and ~c0mplained as regards old gasoline storage
tanks which had been removed apparantly from' Island Motors, Inc. and
stored on property adjacent to his on Spruce Street. b{r. l{oldgate of the
Board stated that he had examined these tanks along ~ith the Fire Chief
this P.~. and that Chief Bartlett was taking appropriate action so see
that the tanks were properly sealed.
Dr. Gerry"Schnelle~was present and advised that he had asked his contractor,
b{r. %%'alter Glowacki, to replace the sand in accordance with the Board's
directive, and he also commented on various points .relative to this matter.
which were reported in the press. Dr. Schnelle also left with the Board
a County bound which he claimed had been bulldozed out of the ground by
Town forces sometime ago and had never been replaced, l~e also stated
~ ~-'. that the area had by now, by the action of the tide, almost filled in.
~{r. Robert Christman was Present '~nd stated that this was true but that '
. the sand had come from his beach and the beach of other abutters in the
area. . - .
~r. Albert Glowacki was the only bidder for the cutting of the grass at various
Town areas in Siasconset, and his bid in the amount of $262.00 was voted
~- accepted.' .
b~r. Paul Smith of the Police Department presented a Petition requesting a
special town meeting for action on two articles therein contained. This
matter was accepted and voted that it be submitted to the Registrars of
Voters for certification as to the names thereon. .'~'
Applications of the New England Tel. ~ Tel. Co. for Underground cable in- .
various locations came before the Board and voted approved.. An applicatio
from the Telephone Company was also received for relocation of a pole on
Silver Street to correct their records and was also approved.
An application was received from Restaurant-~aldorf Associates,'Inc. of New
York City advising that they were purchasing the assets of Treadway Inns,
Corp. and requesting approval or,the transfer of 'the seasonal Alcoholic
Beverages Licenses at the White Elephant and Harbor llouse. It was voted
that this request take the course~pre£cribed by law and. that-in addition
we request a representative of the new Corporation to meet with the Board
and explain to us the manner in ~ich they will be operating said business
A no~e was received from the Public Relations Committee advising that Frank~
Hardy was elected Chairman thereof and placed on file.~ .... ,~.~,.~,:.
The Navy Wives Club requested,~permission to operate an Employment Agency and
voted approved. -~,.,~ ~, :.~,~"
Harry Gordon applied for a permit to store gasoline in vehicles on his garage
premises on Polpis Road, and-it, was voted to have a hearing on same on
8 May at 8:00 A.~i. at the premises ....... '~,

It was ~o~ed to add to the Lodging House Licenses'issued by the Secreta~ the
statement that "No rental rooms allowed on 3rd £1oor without inspection
by the Fire ~ie£ and approval of exits, etc.":
he following licenses Were applied for and approved;-William Fegan, Lodging
House License; Donald Colley, Lamp Post Shop for Co.on Victualler, Soft
Drink Milk 'and Ice Crew; Taxi Permits to Eugene Viera,'Carlton West
and Kenneth Pease; Special Police, Cecil Richrod, Jr. for duty at the
,Nantucket Institution for Savings.
It wu voted to e4t~lish a truck stop,:~on Center Street just north of the
hydrant opposite the'entrance to the Flower Shop of Marine Lurer. Co.
It was voted to advertise for bids for a pick-up truck for the Dept. of Public
Works and for the providing of milk and dai~ products for Our Island .

It was voted to change the pa~king 6n India Street effective on 8 bi~ so that
'there would be no parking on the north side and parking hllo~ed on the ,
south side only. ""
Mr,,Walter Barrett, Hen~ Kehle~eck and R~ert Sandsbur~(were appointed to a committee to supervise the~Madaket Harbor dredging Article.
~ere being no ~rther business, the Board went into Executive Session and
adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
