Selectmen's Meeting
i5 November, 1967
The regular meeting of the Board of Sel&ctmen came t° order at
7:30 P.M' with all members bei.Hg ~p'~seHt.~'~"~ .
Warrant'N0. 47, totaling $59,981.11, was presented by Town
.~Accountant Barrett and was~checked and approved>,by the Board.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approQed.
Mr. Albert Manning, David MurraY,* Robert.Taylor and GrenVille
~.~ Curti~of the.Airport Commission and Manager Thomas Gibson
-~ were present and discussed with the Board the matter of the
'~unway~extension at the'Airport. After discussion pro and
con of this"matter,~it'appearing,that'the'iAirport Commission
had'authority to execute any necessary papers for this pro-
ject, it was the'sence of the meeting~that the Commission
should take whatever action they feel is proper in this
matter w~thout waiting for the approval of the selectmen.
On a~pli6ati6~'of Chief Wendell Howes~of the Pglice Dept., Paul
L. Smith was appointed a Special Police Officer to serve
~.. .~ at the Nantucket Institution for~Savings..
T~e B0a~d apP~gved the erection~0f a shelter at'the~'~corner of the
Silver and Pleasant Streets drainage lot~,same to be con-
· ~'~ structed by~theCoffin School and subject.to,approval,by the
Historic DistrictS'Commission~'~ .~ ~, ~.~- ~7!'~
A letter was~reCei~ed f~o~ Esther U."Gibbs'asking'what,~if any,
plans were being made for n~ constr~ction~at the~Jetties
Margaret A'~ Howe wrote stating that she agreed with l.{r.~Edouard
-Stackpole,s.edit0rial that the Main Street fountain'should
be relocated in its old posi~tion~'~
The BOard v0~ed to authorize 'the chairman to execute the necessary
contract with Automatic.Sprinkler Corporation of~ America for
the installation of the sprinkler system at Our Island Home.
There being no further business, the Board went into ExecUtive.
