The Selectmen's Meeting came to order at 8:00 P.M.~ all members* of
~. the Board being present. -~ ~. ~- ..'~
warrant No. 38, totaling $48,750.34, was presented by Town
Accountant Barrett and was checked and approved by the Board.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. Frances Devens Parrtsh and Loring Hayden of ~Indta street Were
present and protested any changes din the parking on India~
~ Street from the north side to the south .side. Mrs. Parrish
§tared that in her opinion it would~be very dangerous for
people to be opening doors on ,the driver's side into incoming
traffic and that if the proposed ~changes were made, she would
~ · have no alternative but to sell her property. Mr. Hayden
concurred with Mrs.-Parrish's comments.
Mr. Robert H. Christman was~present"and,advi~ed the Board that he
had purchased the former Thomas Seafoods Restaurant property
at public auction, that he was interested in obtaining a
seasonal Alcoholic Beverages License for said premises and
that he would like the Board to,note his~interest and place
his name on any list that we mlght maintain.
On request of Chief Howes, Elmer S. Davis of SiaseonSet was apPoint · a Special,Police Officer in his capacitY as Caretaker of the
"Arthur Dean property.~' ~ .~ ~ ~ .... -'~ ~
Fire Chief Ba~tiett was granted.permission to attend a monthly
Fir~ Chiefs meeting on Wednesday, September 20th at Falmouth.
Mrs. Leroy H.'True~of the DAR Chapter wrote the~-Board advising that
S~pt. 17th~through the 24th was Constitution Week and asked
that flags .be displayed on all public buildings~during this
' , period.' .~; ..... ~ ,-~ · ...... ''-,,~- ~ '~
Mr. Allen W. Holdgate, Sr.,' Shellfish Warden, was present and
suggested ,that the season for, the taking of scallops for
: family use be opened on 1 October; that commercial;scallop"
season open on l'November with a limit of'six,bags~per person,
,twelve bags per boat;'that' the fee be,S5.00 and that all other
regulations,remain the same.';~He also suggested that the Board
reopen, the season on the taking of'softlshell clams'on Sundays
only, one 10-qt.~pail per person per Sunday.,.All of the
requests of the Warden were voted approved.
Parker W. Gray of'the Conservation Commission was present and'.
asked if,there were any funds available for the cleaning out
of the Madaket Ditch. He also stated that the flume planks~
at the Consue Spring agea had not been properly re-installed
and consequently were not holding any water. The Board pro-
mised to look into both of these matters.
