HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-08-23selectmen's Meeting ~ ~23 August, 1967 The Selectmen's Meeting came to.'order,at ~:00 P.M. with all members of the Board being present. ~ ~ ~?~ Warrant No.,35, totaling $169,931.47, Was presented by Town Accountant Barrett and was checked and approved by the Board The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Alexander M. Craig, Jr., Chairman of the steamship AUthOrity, dzscussed with the Board proposed work to was present and ' '~ .... . be done on the south side of the Steamship Authority pro- perty at Nantucket during this winter. The Board examined the plans with Mr. Craig and had no objections to same. Mr. Donald Oliver and Porte~ Jones were present and stated that .~they were property owners ~on Upper Vestal~ Street and that 'Mr. Larrabee,' who apparently has some arrangement with Mr. -Chase at his Chicken Farm with reference to the removal of .~ the hen manure, ~was, transporting same over Upper Vestal Street in a manure spreader (farm-type);and that inasmuch as the said manure spreader did not,have a water-tight body, manure would leak out along the street and cause a very, objectionable condition. ~ It was voted to write to Mr. Chase and Mr. Larrabee calling their attention to this and asktng~ that they,take steps to correct same..~ Howard Crise, ~3rd was granted ~a permit to have a concert at Le Hall on Sunday, August 27th from 9 to 10:30. A letter was :r~¢~ived from Dr. Miles Atkinson~ ~ith reference to the conditions at the'Sconset Dump. and the attitude of the Keeper, Mr. Eld~idge~ and it was voted to refer this matter to the Dept. of Public Works for attention. ~ BrUc'e T. Adams was appointed a Special Police Officer fo~..duty with the local Police Dept. ~0n recommendation of Chief Howes A letter was received from'Alcon Ch&dwfck, Chairman of ~he North Church Fete Committee, thanking the Board~for their ~co-oper- ati0n in this matter. A let*~er was received from Mary TUrlay'R0binson o~ Siasconset, ' making various suggestions and comments as regards :the Sconset Pump, all of which Were approved. A letter was received from Greenlee C0~p.~ advising that.they beton-the Island August 26 to Sept. 5 for the purpose of filming a movie about NantUcket and contents were~ noted and filed. ~ ' ~ Selectmen's Meeting page 2 23 August 1967 Mr. Ed Scully,"Veterans'~ '" .Benefits officer~ was granted' approval .... ~: for part of his vacation' from August 28th thru Sept. 1st. A letter was' received from Franklin~ Bartlett'offering his Co~ent~ that Center Street ~from Chester to .Lily Street ~hould be two-way with a ~ight turn only"marker into Lily Street.
