The meeting came to order at 8:00 Pm, all members of the Board being present..
Warrant N,. 33, totalling SL6,602.&7 was Presented by Town Accountant Barrett
and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the Previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. William Schu~tik Was present and requested approval Of a sign at his
. place of business on Middle Pearl Street. · Same was voted to be approved
~ su~bject to approval of the Historic District Cc~mission as to form.
Mr. Schustik was also granted a permit for Sunday entertaimment, for a
Folk Singing Concert, at Bennett Hall on August 21.
A Mrs' Curtis 'Page, a college professor and Summer resident of Nantucket spoke
relative to the Board's position in refusing a permit to Mr. Sch~ tik to
operate a Cider House, as previously applied for.
STATED: He felt it was a mistake to classify all teenagers as Beatnicks.
Mr. Robert Blair a~so spoke relative to the Board's refusal on this same
same subject. Mr. Blair ~lso requested a permit to serve as Special
Police at Mr. Schustik's puppett show operation on Middle Pearl Street,
and same was approved subject to approval of Chief Howes.
TheI Board exec~uted maintenance contracts with the~ State ~DPw' Chapter 90, for
~ the balance of the year, and also signed a memorandum of agreement rel-
' ative to the project on Eel Point Road.
It was brouEht to the Board's attention that the annual COunty hearing held
by the State DPW, would be held in the Selectmen's rocms on Friday, September
9, at 10 AM.
Franklin C. Lamb III was appointed Special Police Officer to serve with the
tovm Police Separ.tment, upon request of Chief Howes.
VOTED; To have ~:Ch~f Howes make a survey of Slow Children signs about the
Tovm, and advise the Board as to which, in his opnion, can now be removed.
VOTED: J0 erect a Slow Children sign on~ ~x~~ Road, Siasc°nset, near the
LuCas property. ~ , ,.~ .~ ~1
VOTED: ~ To have the town DPW cut the brush on Washington Avenue, in Madaket
VOTED: to advertise for bid~ on various aspects 0f town road contracts, and
~ same to be in the hands of the Board by 31 Aug. 1966.
There being no further business, the Board went into eXecutive session and
