HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-06-30 Selectmen' s Meeting, June 30, 1966 The' meeting came to order at 8:20 PM having been preceeded by a Department of Public Works Meeting, all members of the Board being present. war~ant No. 26, totalling~ $50,021.13 ~was presented by Town Accountant Barrett and checked and approved by the Board~ Minutes of the previous meeting were read and aporoved. James Allen~ Joseph Csho0n,' and Bertha O'Neil, taxi drivers were present and presented to the Board a petition signed by 12 independant taxi op- erators reGuesting that the Board reestablish the taxi stand on Fed- eral Street at the corner of Main. This matter wes discussed by those · present with the Board and was voted to t~ke the matter under advisement. Later at the meeting, the Bomrd again considered this matter and voted to write the taxi operators,' iu care of ~s. O'Neil,~ offering to establish a stand on the West side of Washington Street from Main to Salem if this would ~eet with their approval. Mr. Parker W. Gray w~s present and sPoke about the need for additional land if the airport runway was to be extended as voted by the To,om. It was voted to write to the Airport Commission calling this matter ~to their attention. On request of Chief Howes ~r,'j~Van Osde'ell was appoin~d Special Police to serve at the Jetties Beach and Robert Heydt to serve at the Steam- ~ boat ~hsrf. ~ · ...... -~ ~' T~e following iicenses and ~ermits were applied for and voted a?roved by ~.the Board. Wa~winet House sunday~ enterta~mment ~f0r piano ~nd recorded music Thirty Acres "· ~Orchestra end Dancing on weekdsys sn~ orchestra on Four Winds Gifft Shop recorded music wee~days ''A request fr~m the New England"Tel.'' and Tel., and the Nantucket Gas and Electric for a ~oint pole location bn ~Oaklsnd Ave. in Madaket was voted approved. ~' A letter Wes received from Mrs. Rachael Ruppert 'of siss~onset, ' commenting on the closing of the beach at Wauwinet~ contentes noted in k';ertificate '~;as received from the State' Department of Agriculture certifying Nantucket to be an ar~a free of Burculosis and it was 'voted to send said certificate to George Rezen~es, Inspector of Animals. ~. There being no further business the Board went into executive seesion and adj. at 9:30E~.
