HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-07-07 Selectmens Meetihg'7'July i965 ., The-' meeting came to order at 8PM all membe~s"of the Board being ' present. ~, ;" ~ - Warrant No. 28, totalling~$37,940 39 was pr~se'nted by Town Acct. .-,. ~,' Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. , Minutes' of the Previous meeting Were read and approved. . / Mr. Walter Miko was present and advised that he was considering the construction of a'Pizza type stand at his property on Fairgrounds road and wanted to inquire of the Board if he would be' granted a Common vici. license at this location if he embarked on the construction of same. The Board took the matter under advisement for one week. --- Town clerk Coffin sent"a letter and forms for Signatures of the Board certifying ,that the Census just, completed showed Nantucket~population to be 3702. The following licenses and permits were approved: Thirty Acres Sunday ent ' lic.,for orchestra music, no danding Nobadeer Rest. Orchestra and dancing weekdays and recorded 'music weekdays and sundays. ' Siasconset Caslon, Danees 9 to 1 July 9th and 23rd and 'Aug. 6 and 20th. The Board were' advised that Mr. Wells from the state dept. which governs the licensing or.application of insecticides etc. would be here on Monday to conduct an examination for those that had applied and any other who might ~be interested. Mr. Norcross suggested and it w~s voted to have the Police dept. visits-.~ local bicycle shops and request'them to advise their patrons to adhere the various traffic regulations. Mr. Crowley of the' Nantucket Light asked'ihe Boards decision on the matter of the press being allowed to pass fire lines with vehicles to cover fires. Ch. Chadwick advis~ed that we had discussed this matter some time ago and that as far as the press passing 'fire lines on foot we had no objection but that the Board felt that as far as' vehicles were concerned that they should walk like everyone else from wherever the fire lines were established. Mr. crowley also commented on 'obtaining ~information.from the. Police dept., and Ch.' Chadwick stated that he would-look into-- the matter and that any information that the chief felt should be, given, out should be available to both papers. There being.no 'further business the Board went into executive session and adj. at 9.30 PM. Executive session: ',.' Mr. Roger F..Turner Esq. representing Mr. Oelinas:of the t ~, Nantucket Boat lines appeared at the meeting while the Board was in executive session and stated thtt he had just come down on the late boat and desired to discuss with the Board an application '"- of Nantucket Boat lines for an ICC permit. Mr.' Turner advised. that Nantucket Boat was applying for an ICC permit to allow it' to bring package tours that originated out of state, that this pertained only to passengers,~no vehicles or freight and was ne- cessary due to the increased incidence of this type of business. Mr. Turner. advised that he was not asking the Board for approval of this matter but wanted to appear and advise us of what was en- volved in his clients petition,xz,_~..
