HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-08-28Selectmens Meeting 28. Aug. 1963' ""- '' ': The mee*ing came to order at 8 PM all-'members of the'Board being present, except Mr. Killen, Mr. Barrett Ch. Pro Tem. Warrant No. $25,959.19 was 'presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous' meeting were~read and approved. Mr. Tel Berna of the Steamship Authority was pr'esenteand discusse with the Board the proposed Pall Schedule,"stated that authority figures shoWed that there was little demand for a two boat schedule, but that they would keep track of'the matter again this fall to see what developed. Mr ~ Andrew O. Lewis, Caretaker of the Town dump was present and discussed with the Board'!he:problems as regards *he.dump , and trouble-he had had with the Sutp-'of the highway dept. as regards getting~adequate fill to properly cover thedump ~after.bulldozing. This matter was discussed at some length as to how best to keep *he'.dump-in better shape. Mr. Lewis .felt.that the only practical way was to set def'inate hours on when the~dump would be open,-stated that he was submit*in his resignation that he had.had 16 years on the job and had hoped to get in 20 to'obtainhis'retirement but that if he di not have the confidence of the Board and that hours were not set'he-did not'See how he could'continue. No decision was made. on the matter at this time the board taking it under advisement for further discussionf The matter.~of the incinerator ~ at ~ the lst'Nat, stores was again discussed and no complaints having been received the board continued the matter of taking any definate action to bar the~use of same. The ci~ss of 1965 was 'granted a permit to'hod a"~ance at Bennett Hall on Aug. 30th from 8 to 12 Mr. and Mrs Stanley Slosek and Mr-'and Mrs John Large Chaperones and Mr. Clifford Ryder .. Sp..~police. '' ,. Mr. Prank Sylvia was granted a renewal of his~auctioneers lic. A request from the Sewer Commission for'~"~'meeting With the Pin. Comm; was voied referred to'the Pinance Committee. A letter_was received from George M.,Poland Esq. representing Richard E. Lew~s~Jr. in'the mat*er of an appeal from the ruling of the Hist. Dis,' Comm.':and requesting a hearing before the'selectmen as provided by law. It was voted to set the date for Said hearing for Mr*day 6 Sept.' 1963 at The Board again discussed the matter of'spending.the town app. ~,-.,,.~for. thepainting.of.the white.center lines, and it was voted to,ask Rep. Resrocher to see.if we could obtain a del*hate committment~from the DPW on this'mai'ret. Voted to request the h~h~a~dept~."~'to.cut brush"0~erhanging the sidewalk on'S.~Mill St.' and also.to have a sign placed on the madake,:Rd, designating thai'car enter from the Crooked Voted.to reject all bids!sub, it,ed t° date on Island'Home work ,, and to advertise again for'this work.
