HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-12-05Selectmens Meeting 5 Dec. 1962 Th'e meeting came to order at 7.30 PM all members 'of,the Board being present. The Board first met,as County Commissioners and then as Selectmen. Warrant' No. ,49, totalling $9,155.09 ~was P~esented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes Of the pre~ious meeting were read and approved., Chief Bartlett of the Fire Dept.~was present'and outlined for the Board the proposed use of the land'near Miacomet Pond owned by the Firemens Asso. stated that the land would be cleared, and harrowed and oiled, that,a fire tower would be erected to prcatice various ladder drills.etc, on and ~that~pits would be utilized for training in the.combatting of oil and gasoline fires. Mr..Richard Everett~speaking for the Coffin heirs stated that he felt this use would spoil the area and that another more suitable location could be found, suggested Lot liB Smooth Hummocks~near the Reedy pond. Nit. Charles Clark Coffin also'felt the use.would spoil this area. Mr. Gilbert Burchell Jr. the abutting land owner stated that the proposed land was 240 feet from his home and only six feet from!the coroner of his barn. Stated that he wanted entered in the~record the question as to %~o would be res- ponsible for any damages that might occur to his property. The Board after discussion voted to hold a view of the loeati and also to look at the Reedy pond area on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. Mr. AllanHoldgate; Harbor Master was present and Was authorized to have 8 styrofoam bouys constructed for use at the Broad creek area at a cost of $25.00 each., A notice was received from the U.S. Army Bng. relative to an -application from Mr. Arthur Crosby for license to maintain an existing bulkhead at his Rimneys point property to which the Board had no objection. ~. A letter was received from the Mad Hatter asking~permission as in the past to serve set ups and same was voted approved. A'l~tter~was:received from Arthur Robertson suggestiing that old Christmas trees might be saved and~used in shore erosion control and forwarded to the Su~t. of streets. Mr. Nathan Thurst0n appliced for a renewal of his permit to ,~transport garbage,and also his'common victi ice cream and soft,drink licenenses, at'Sunny Acres,"adn same were voted approved subject to insp. by Mr. Lam~. There being.no further business the BOard Went into executive session and adj. W. xe c~ tire Session: at 9.45 PM. /~ ·~- Voted to'have the Town counsel drmv up a complaint against Mr. Robert Lyons relative to his delinquincy in the care of his children.
