HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-04-04Sele~me'ns Meeting 4 April 1962 The meeting came to order at 8PM as Selectmen having been pre- ceeded by a Meeting as County Commissioners being present, all. Warrant No. 14 totalling $19,658.09 was .presented by Town: Acct. Barrett and~checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Shellfish Warden Francis reported that Hummock Pond had been succ 'essfully released to the Ocean and had run down in good shape. Kenneth Coffin having done the bulldozing work. Only one bid was received on crance and bucket work at 1st bridge 'Madaket, that from Walter Glowacki in'the amount of 15.00 per hour.on the job. same was voted approve.d work to be done under the supervision of the shellfish.warden. The 'Shellfish Warden was authorized to open Miacomet Pond to the Ocean. Bids on C.'D. citizens bank radios and eqipmen~,w~e~received from Earl T. Lowell Nantucket 1799.68: Daniel J. Murphy 1877.04 and. Graham Radio Inc. Reading Mass 1446.00 the latter not including any installation as called for in'the spect As all of the bids whichcomplied were in excess of the amount appropriated the Board tabled any action on this matter- untill we had conferred with the C. D. Director and Radio Officer. Supt.'of Streets;"Jaeckle submitted various specifications for Road work as voted by the Town Meeting'and it was voted to adversise for bids on same,.to be in by 18 April 1962. Chief B~rtlett was present ~and discussed specifications for radio equipment, fire alarm panel and misc. items for the Fire Dept. and it was voted to adv.-for-same to be in by 18 April!.1962. ~- Mr. Henry Garnett was present and submitted his name for appoint- ment as Caretaker Town Cemetaries, Marcellus Glidden also applied for.~this position. The Board later in the meeting appointed. Mr. Garnett to this position.~.:. - The matter"of the'application of Walter F. Glowacki.for a'Seas0na all alcoholic license.at premises known as Nobadeer was before the Board for action having been.advertised as' provided by law. On motion made and seconded it was voted that smue be approved no objections having been'received. A letter was'received fro~ the Planning Board advising of thief organizations set up and placed on file. 'The Upper Deck Restaurant was granted a renewal of its entertainm license for Piano and recorded music for week days only. one bid was received on Fireworks display that from the intersiat Fireworks Co. in the amount of 1500.00 and same was voted approved. The Board were advised that Mr~.Caton had declim d to supervise this operation this'year and. it,was voted to request the Legion and VFW to sponser same. Bids were received on furnishing a Police Cruiser for the Police Dept. as follows: Island Mtrs 1147.27: Albert L. Silva Inc 1728.00, 'the Board took no.acton at this time until they had seen cuts of the two vehicles,bid on. A letter was received from Public Safety Comm. Giles advising that .John McGrady had been selected to attend the State .. Police Academy. The matter of a'contract for use.of the Legion Bldg. was referred to the Town Counsel. The Warrant~f0'r the,Dog Officer was':b~fore'the Board,' sig'~ed b~' the Ch. and.delivered in hand to the Dog Officer Mr' ' Stuart B. Day. who waspresent. Articles 79-80-81 were Vot'~d referred to. the,Town ~'unsel'for the necessary action. A letter Was received from Wm. B. H. 'snow 'relative .,to the Board~: action on handling of crowds,.read and placed on-file. 'license for weekdays and s, undays at said.place of busineSS Mr., Luther Fernald dba India House was granted~i~'reuewal of his Ihhholders license Mr.'John Herbert ~ The Eagle and Key (forme'rl~'"Jo'lly Beaver Coffee House) at 21 Center St. was granted a renewal of entertainment license for recorded music weekdays'only and a common vict. license at said place of business, closing hour 1 AM.
