HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-03-28Selectmens Meeting, 2~ March 1962 The meeting came~to order at 7.30 PM all members of the Board being present, Warrant No. 13, totalling $31,171.16 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Nestor Richards was present and conferred'with the Board as regards the specifications for Guest Moorings, and it was voted to advertise same for bids, to be in by 11 April 1962. It was also voted to advertise that all sunken moorings in Hither Creek Madaket must be replaced or removed by.l May 1962 otherwise same will be removed by/the Harbor Master. Chief Howes was Present and discussed with the Board the matter of the crowds which congregate at the foot of Main street. The Board advised that we had discussed this matter at some length and that it.was the vote of the Board that the Chief should take'whatever steps may'be necessary to see that this crowd is'dispersed so that they do not ob- . .-struct ~ither the street or the sidewalk either at this location or elsewhere. The Board 'met with the Town Counsel and members of the Park and Recreation Commission and discussed the matter of the pending pet. in the Land Court as regards the registration of the title to this Beach property. After a lengthy dis- cussion the Board later in the meeting Voted to instruct the Town Counsel that we felt it would be in the best in- terests of the town~to !et.this matter drop and to offer to the Yacht Club a~ease~'f the land within the confines of the present bulkhead for a nominal amount. It was voted to'advertis~ for bids for crane ghd'buc~et work at 1st Bridge Madaket on an hourly basis on the job bids to be received by 4 April at 7.30 No bids were received for the opening of Hummock Pond and-.the Board voted to authorize the Shellfish Warden to get the best. price obtainable and go forward with th~s work. Bids. were received from Kenneth C. Coffin in the amount of 185. for the opening of Sechacha Pond and he being the only bidd same was voted accepted. No bids being [eceived for'bulldozing at the Town Dump, th~ Board voted to authorize the Caretaker to obtain figures on this work and advise the.Board. 'Mr. Kenneth C. Coffin submitted a bid of $6.50 per hour for bulldozing work at the Siaconset Dump and same was voted approved. ~r/ Clarence Swift was granted a renewal of his Auctioneers license Pole locations for the Tel and Tel and Nant. Gas and Elec.~on Tristram Rd. and Eei Pt. road were approved as presented. A notice was received from'the H.'P. Davis Tractor Co. fha%[.'the demonstration of mosquito ditching equipment would take place on Eues and Wed the 4th and 5th of April. The BOard voted to have the Town Counsel draw the warrant for ~% the Dog officer with the provision that all dogs must be restrained from 15 April to 15 Sept. 1962. Mr. Donald Allen was granted a renewal of his lass 2 used car license. ,~- :. Notification was ~eceived from 'the Tree commission of the res- ignation of Ed. Olderich from the Commission and sug~ the name of Hugh G. McVicar, and the Board approved ~ame. to replace Mr. Olderich on this committee. The tree commission 'also recommended Mr. Russell Po~e for the Position of Inspect. Pest control officer and the Board approved his appointment as such. It was'voted to meet at the Town Clerks.office atll.30AM on Tues the 3rd of April for. the purpose of selecting jurors for duty at the Super Court. : " ..': Notification was received from the School Committe in accordance with statute of a vacancy in said committee due to the death of .Irving A. Soverino.Jr..and the Board voted to set' the date of Friday 6 April at 7.30 PM .as the time for a joint meeting to appoint a school committee member to fill this vacancy. ~.. '~' The following applications were received for renewal of seasonal all alcoholic licenses, and voted to take the course .pre- scribed by law: Capn Tobeys; Wauwinet House, Harbor House, White Elephant. Voted to request the tree commission to make a survey of N, water sireet as regards trees that obstruct the street and advise the Board as to their suggestions ...... There being no further business the Board went into executive session and adj. at 11, PM. Executive Session: -. . " Mr. Roland g. Coffin advised that he had made arrangements to dispose of garbage collected at Sconset~as required by the Health Regulations and wasa reappointed as Sconset Collector.' Mr. Robert Ray was reappointed as a member of the Registrars of.Voters, Mr. gii~mmMz$~i Paul Smith also submitted his name for consideration in theevent Mr. Ray did not reapply.
