The meeting.came to order at 8.26'PM having been preceeded by a
County Commissioners meeting, all members of the Board
being present except Ch. Killen and Mr. Meilbye, Mr.
Pease served as Ch. Pro Tem.
~{in6tes of the previous meeting were read and-~pproved.
Warrant No. 32, t0t~lling $33,883.38 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
A letter from gr. Wilfred Owen requesting a sign near the entrance
to the village of Quidnet was discussed, Mr. Owen requesting
a stop sign, it was voted to have an intersection sign
erected by the highway dept.
An opinion was received from Town Counsel sanguinette advising tha'
the only. control over.busses was as regards weight and
length, and placed on file.
A report from Mr. Thomas M~Grath, Fire Chief Bartlett and Supt.
of Streets 3aeckle on the condition of.the.fire cisterns
about town was received and filed, the report stating that
Mr. McGrath found them all to be in excellent condition.
A letter from one 3ack Squire commenting on the n'eed for tennis
courts was referred to the Parck and Rec.~ Commission.
A letter from the Madaket Cons. Asso. relative to Madaket Dunes
and also commenting on the condition of the Beach at the
end of the road was received, and referred to the Park
and Rec. Commission.
The Board considered the request or'one Dr. Victor Fellows for
abatement of the charge of $65.00 as a result of his
minor snn having pulled a false-alarm and it was voted~
that no change in the policy of the Board could be made.
Morgan J. Levine wr'ote r'equesting a Permit to ·0~erate his business
on Sunday under the provisions of Sec.9 Ch.136 and it
was after discussion voted to deny same.
It was reported tO the Board th'at the triangle near the property
of Martindale Coffin in Sconset needed weeding and same
was referred to the highway dept
The Harbor House was granted permission for dancing Weekdays in
.its Bamboo Terrace.
The matte~ of a trash barrell near.the old mill and the Mill Hill
pk. was referred to the highway dept. for attention.
There being no further business the Board went into executive
session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10 PM.
Executive Session:
The matter of the admission 'of Mrs Sylvia to Our Island
Home when she was able to leave the hospital was discussed at the
request of her son Tony and was voted approved.
Secy. ~lxdden reported that Mr. %qhitcomb of Maxim mtrs had called
with ref. to the new ladder truck and advised that their insp. in
making a final check of this truck found that the front axel was'
not the one that our specs called for and that they Maxim had
for, he advised that they had contacted Ford to send them'the corr .ct
axel, but that the truck was ready for delivery, and we could have i~
at once and when' the heavier axel came they would send a crew down to
install it,~ or they would keep it until the axel could be obtained and
installed. Chief Bartlett felt that we should have the truck now d
it was voted to so advise Maxim Mfrs.
