The'meeting came ~0 order,as Selectmen at 8.15 PM having been
preceeded.by a County Commissioners meeting,'all members of.
,.. the Board being present.... . .
Warrant No. 18,':totalling $16,634.23 was presented by Town Acct.
,Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and'approved.
Mr. William Grieder in behalf of the Red..Men requested'permission
to hold a parade on Sat.:6 May about the center of the Town
and same was.voted approved.
Mr. Grieder also commented on the fact of the Nantucket being take
off the line at this time of the year for annual overhaul and
suggested that this was a very inconvenient time. The Board
advised that we would relay this information to Mr. Berne of
the Authority,
Mr. AleXander M' Craig, Jr. financial adviser on the authority
was present and stated that the,problem of competeing lines.
from Hyannis was increasing and that'it should-be brought to
the attention of the.public that every dollar spent by local
taxpayers on any of the'competing vessells actually came out
of the taxpayers pockets in paying for the steamship deficit.
Suggested that so far as we are able that any'contracts made
by the town specify thai materials etc. must come on the auth-
ority vessels.
Mr~ ElwYn Francis;'shellfish warden was present-~ith~'Mr. Wilbour
Dir. of the Division of Marine'Fisheries and Mr. Matthiessen
Asst. Dir. and discussed with the Board and a group of scallop
fishermen present the-prpposed regulations'whihh will be in
force next fall governing the premises, utensils'etc, that
must be used in the opening'of scallops for commercial sale.
Bids were received and opened on various items Of Road constructio
work aszi~ttmws: Two contractos namely Nant. Const. Co. and~'
Walter F.~Glowacti and Son were the only bidders and contracts
were voted awarded to the lowest bidder in each case same bein
as follows:

Reconstruction of Hussey St.
Construction of sidewalk sparks AVe.
Construction of Capaum.
Construction of Delaney Road
Nant. Const. Co.
" Curb and sidewalk Williams Lane
Installation of Granite Curb.
An'application was received from J. Gord0a'MacD°nald et-ai~for
a permit for a bowling alley on property at rear of the -
Ruth Chagnon shop. off Beach St. it was voted that this
be tabled for.two weeks.
Mr. Peter White was granted a renewal of his license to sell ice
cream from a truck about the town under the.same restrictions
as in previous years
Voted to write the Wannacomet Water Co. relativ~k0 ~atchin~ of
pleasant St,
A letter was received from the Board of AssesSors~under the stat~
advising of a vacancy in their Board and it was voted to hold
a joint meeting on Monday 15 May 1961 for the purpose of a
a member to said Board of Assessors.
Mr. Allen Holdgate was granted a renewal of his soft drink at the Airport Snack Bar.

Downyflake Doughntu Shop was granted a renweal of their common

A letter was received from the water Co.'to' the effect that
number of houses~on Delaney Rd. did not justify~their extending
their main across Cliff Road at this time~ ~,'
The matter of the request for approval of the transfer'of,the
Wine and Malt package~' store license of Jospeh,Cahoon
Jessie Murphy was before the Board, same having.been adv.~:
and no cmplaints having been received same was voted approved.
Bids on the'installation Of five'new windows, screens and storm
~.sash at Our Island Home were received as follows: Seddon Legg
Sr. ~698.35; Clarence E. Lyon $484.00 same was voted awarded~
to the lowest bidder Mr.'Lyon ........
Voted that starting next week our regular weekly meeting start at 8 PM until further notice.
