HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-01-04Selectmens Meeting 4 Jan. 1961 The meeting 'came to order at 8PM having been preceeded by a County Commissioners meeting all members of the Board being present Warrant No. 1, totalling $2,557.73 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Shellfish Warden Francis was present and request'ed that the. Bpard close~ of the area to the East of a line from Shimmo Pt. to Abrams Pt. to the taking of scallops for both Family and Commercial use, stating thet the area had a large per- centage of seed to adult scallops and that same~should be protected. On motion made and seconded it was so voted.- A letter was received from a Mr. John Donnellis'to"the effect that the bag limit on scallops.should be ~ncreased. Thgs Matter was discussed with Warden Francis and Mr. Barrett stated that he felt the limit should be increased to 6 and 12. Mr. Nestor Richards stated that he felt the market was glutted at this time. This matter was tabled at this time. blr. Tell Berna was present and submitted a letter in answer to the inquiry made last week by Mr. William Waine et al relative to the Steamship Authority, and discussed the matter of the Authority operation and some of its problems with the Board. Mr. Peter Gomes and Mr. Nestor Richards were present, and Mri Gomes as Harbor master went over withthe Board estimates for converting the ten guest moorings we now have into total of seventeen iig~i~z moorings with the old buoys to be used at Madaket..It was suggested that he get together with the Secy. and that an appropriate article be drawn up covering these matters for insertion in the~annual Warrant~~' Mr; Albert C. Johnsen Jr. wrote' advising thai he would agree to collect the bubbish at the Jetties Beach for the same contract price he had bid and also was gr anted a renewal of his permit for the collection and transportation of garbage. Voted to writethe-two local suppliers requesting bids on the furnishing of fuel oil to various town and county bldgs. on a per gal. basis same to be in by next week. An application of Mrs Charles Annis for the position of RN Supervisor at Our Island Home was received and tabled at this time. t Bids on'the printing of the 1960 Town report were received as follows: Nant.~Town Crier 3.98 per page; Inq. and Mirror 3.94 per page. Voted that same be awarded to the lowest~ bidder the Inq. and Mirror and that they be requested to furnish the Board with colors of cover stock. The following licenses and permits were granted: Manuel and Dennis Dias,-Common Vict. Ice cream and juke box. Kent K. King, Innholders at the Moorings and Gardner St. F. Volpe On his inaugerat Voted to write the.Water Co. relative to mete'rs at the Jetties Beach area, to coPer-'the Comforg Sra. and Camp Holiday.~ Voted to'allOw Mr. Killen'Lesses of'the:Jetties Beach a credit of $100.00 on his rental for water used byrthe Comfort sra.. and Camp Holiday whichcome thru his meter. Mr. Barrett asked about the rental and Mr.~ Killen stated that same would be There being no further business~the Board went into executive-~ session,to discuss welfare matters and adj, at 10 PM. Mrs Grimes of the ADC and OAA Board met with the Board and discussed the matter of her asst. taking time off without her approval to take care of a sick husband,- it appearing that Mr. Barrett had intimated to the employee Mrs Clute . that same was OK and that she could do 'some of. the work at home. The Board felt that' this should not .be,~ and that 'Mrs Clute should be instructed to return to work or be docked for time taken off. Voted to meet at the Island Home'on Sunday at 3 PM to make an inspection of-the.premises. Voted to write the Nant. Const. Co. relative to Sealcoating sand calling attention to their contract:and advising that same should be cleaned up.in, thirty days. Voted to Write Mr. Glowacki and inquire'as to when he proposed to start work on the Cliff Rd. James K. Glidden, Secy. .On. tomorrow.
