SHELLFISH REGULATIONS
COMMERCIAL USE
For the Town of Nantucket, adopted by the Selectmen under
authority delegated by the Annual Town Meeting.
Section 1. No person shall take i
from the waters of Nantucket,
Clams, Quahogs, Oysters, Eels, or
Scallops, without a permit issued~
by the Selectmen as Public Wel-
fare may require. Whoever shall
take from the xvaters of Nantucket,
Clams, Quahogs, Oysters, Eels, or
Scallops without a permit issued
by the Selectmen, or after said
permit has been revoked by the
Selectmen, or whoever for the pur-
pose of procuring a license falsely
makes any representation or state-
ment required shall be punished by
a fine of fifty ($50.00) dollars for
each offense.
Section 2. The Selectmen shall
issue permits as directed in Article
130 of the General Laws of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts.I
· Section 3A. The Selectmen shall
allow the taking of legal scallops
for conrmercial purposes during~
the period from November 1st to
March 31st, inclusive.
Section 3B. Scallops shall be
taken by hand only for family use!
and not over one bushel per person
per week, and not for commercial l
purposes during the month of Oc-.
tober.
Section 3C. The use of dredges
between the hours of Sunset and
Sunrise, and on Sunday, is pro-
hibited during the legal scallop
season, nor shall scallops be taken
on Sunday by hand for commer-
cial purposes. , shall]
Section 3D. No scallops
be taken under this permit unless
they shall have a well defined
raised annual growth line, as pro-
vided by Section 70 of Chapter 130
of the General Laws, Annotated.
Section 4. The use of two or
more dredges connected together
by an iron bar or any similar de-
vice is prohibited. No dredge or
dredges of greater width than
twenty-eight inches across the
mouth will be permitted Power
hoisting of dredges is authorized
provided no dredge is more than
twenty-eight inches wide, seven
rings deep, the bar on dredge is
not over eighteen mesh long and
the complete dredge does not ex-
ceed fifty lbs. in weight.
Section 5. Not over four stand-
ard bags (provided by the Town)
of scallops shall be taken per man
per day, including shells, and not
over eight bags of scallops in-
cluding shells shall be taken per
boat per day. This limit of four
and eight shall be interpreted as
including scallops taken under this
commercial permit and any family
permit. All bags shall be tied se-
curely in such manner that the
top is completely closed.
Section 6. No clams, quahogs,
oysters, or scallops shall be taken
by hand or otherwise from such
seed areas as are now set off or
closed by action of the Selectmen
or from such areas as may be set
off or closed by the Selectmen
during the period these regula-
tions remain in force. Clams must
measure 2~A inches or more and
quahogs must measure 2 inches or
more.
Section 7A. A first violation of
any of the sections two to six in-
clusive shall be punishable by re-
vocation of license for not more
than thirty (30) days from the
date of the Board's action revok-
ing said license. If said penalty
should carry over the end of the
season, the balance of the penalty
remaining shall be carried over
and be effective in the next scallop
season. ' ~ - ' ,
Section 7B. A second violation
of any of the sections two to six
inclusive shall be punishable by
revocation of license for one year
from the date of the Board's ac-
tion revoking, said license.
Section 8. The :~ee for license
to operate under the above regu-
lations shall be $5.00. .
Section 9. As may seem neces-
sary, and at any time, the above
regulations may be altered, or new
regulations put in force by the
Selectmen

MEETING
Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Nantucket, ss.
To either of the Constables of the Town of Nantucket,
greeting:
In the name of 9he Commonwealth of Massachusetts you
are di,rected to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Nan-
tucket, qualified to vote in Town Affairs, to meet at the
Cyrus Peirce Auditorium in said Nantucket, on Tuesday,
I November, 1960, at 7:30 o'clock in the afternoon, then and
there to act on the following articles:
Article 1
To receive reports from committees which shall come before this
meeting.
Article 2
To see if the Town will vote to transfer from available funds the
follo~ving amounts to the following listed departments and or articles;
a. Island Home, salaries 3200.00 dollars.
Island Home, expenses 15,000.00 dollars.
b. Fire Dept., Payroll 4,136.00 dollars.
Budget expenses, 1,000.00 dollars.
c. Airport Dept., 10,000.00 dollars.
d. Finance Committee, 300.00 dollars..
e. Town buildings, 200.00 dollars.
f. Police Dept., expenses 1200.00 dollars.
g. Health Dept., salaries 1,000.00 dollars.
h. Low level sewer, 3500.00 dollars.
i. Harbor Master, 125.00 dollars.
j. Article 91 annual warrant (Jetties Beach Repairs) 100.00 dollars
Total amoun5 to be transferred under this article $39,761.00.
Article 3
To see if the Town will vote to transfer from available funds the
sum of 200.00 dollars as additional payment to Mrs. Margaret Roche
for work at the Treasurer's office during the illness of the Town Treas-
urer, Mr. Allen Backus.
Article 4
To see if the To~vn ~vill vote to assume liability in the manner pro-
vided by Section 29 of Chapter 91 of the Gen. Laws, as an~ended, by
Chapters 516 and 524, Act of 1950 for all damages that may be incurred
-by ~vork to be performed by the Department of Public Works of the
Comm. onwealth of Massachusetts for the improvement, development,
maintenance and protection of tidal and non-tidal rivers and streams,
harbors, ti. dewaters, foreshores and shores along a public beach outside
of Boston Harbor, including the Merrimack and Connecticut Rivers, in
accordance with Section 11 of Chapter 91 of the General Laws, and
authorize the Selectmen to execute and deliver a bond of indenmity
therefor to the Commonwealth..
Article 5
To see if the Town will vote to transfer from available funds the
sum of 500.00 dollars for materials to construct an addition on the
'Sconsct Fire Station for the use of the night man. Labor to be per-
formed by mcn~bcrs o~ the Dept. at no cost to the Town.
To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to appoint
auew Town Building Committee to further study and recommend rela-
tive to a New Town an.d County Office Building and to transfer from.
available funds the sum of 1,000.00 dollars for expenses of said Com-
mittee.

And to act on and transact all business may arise in
relation to the foregoing articles.
And you are directed to serve this warrant by po~ing
copy of the same .at the corner of Main and Federal Streets,
in the Post Office in Siasconset, and by publishifig the same
in The Inquirer and Mirror and Nantucket Tow~ Crier, at
least seven days before the date of said meeting.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant,
with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, at the time and
place of meeting, as aforesaid.
