HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-08-03Selectmens Meeting 3 Aug. 1960 The m~eting came to order at~8PM all members of the Board~except Mr. Meilbye being present. ~ Warrant No. 31 totailing $11,044.50 was presented b'y Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. n Minutes of'the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Howard Bardsley, Pres. Madaket Conservation Asso.' was present with members of the association and presented a plan for the erecting snow fence, in the dune areas and other'suggesti, It was voted to refer same to the Supt. o f streets and to request that he confer with the Asso. relative to the erecti~ of Snow Fence. A letter was received from Town Counsel Sanguinetti relative to our inquiry as to a By-Law'covering store windows being left bare and barren in the winter, and advising'that it did not appear that this was a matter which a by-law could govern. It was voted to suggest to the Chamber of Commerce and the Civic League that this might be something that they could take on as a project awarding a prize.for the best window et A complaint was received from residents of Old N. Wharf relative to entertainment noise in particular the playing of a trumpe at Cap'n Tobeys Chowder Bar. Inasmuch as the Board had.issue a permit'for piano and gutter it was-voted to write Mr.' Leske and advise that any further violations would be.cause for revocation of his license. Mr. Francis Holdgate was granted a permit tO operate his horse and surry from Main st. near the Brock Office the same as last. season. A letter was received from Mr. and Mrs Ross Nichols of Flora St. thankng the Board for the street light on Flora St. , Mr. Roger A. Young and Mr. Vincent Arno were granted permits to erect signs one at Broad St.'and the other at Main St. same having been approved as to,form by the~H.D.C. Mr. Walter C.' Hatch was'granted a renewal of his soft drink and A ltter'was received from supt. of streets ~aeckle Suggesting the Board consider the matter of completing the curb. on Williams Lane with the balance left.in the gen. sidewalk and curb.-appropriation. After discussion it was voted to retain the balance in the appropriation to ~take care of any further sidewalks and curbs the Board may.have requests for.. A request was rreceived from Mr. Cliff0rd'~llen relative to' the construction of a sidewalk and curb-from S. Water St. to the rear entrance of Allens Diner, they presently being in the process of paving the private way in the area. After dis- -cussion it was.voted to advise that we could not.do so while this way remained a'private abutters way but if the abutters had no'objections we could take the way formally and then reconsider the matter of the sidewalk. A letter was received from a John Donnellis relative to dogs trespassing on his property and same referred to,the Dog. officer. The VFW was granted a permit for a poPpy day on 13 Aug. 1960.
