HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-06-15Selectmens~Meeting i5 June 1960 The.meeting came to'order.at 8PM all members of the Board being present. Warrant No.'24 totalling $60,157.16 was pr~s'ented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. ~ Minutes of the Previous'meeting were read and approved. Mr. Charles Coombs was present and request a license to operate an employment bureau, same was approved subject to his . .~ filing a letter of application, site of same to be at the Cockeyed Dove property, Main St. Mr. George H. Mackay representing the pacific club was present and protested the location of.the sign at the corner by the Pacific Club, the matter was tabled for the Board ~o look the area in question over. A Miss DePew of Quidnet.was present and presented a letter to the Board outlining some of the results of the perimiter spraying which they had observed on songbirds, same was voted referred to the Tree Commission for their information. A group of citizens were present along with Steamship Authlrity member Robert S.' Backus to discuss the matter of the strike and what action or actions we might take to help the situati Mr.~Backus outlined what had occurred to date and after dis- cussion pro and con it was Voted that we instruct the Town Counsel to.join with counsel from Marthas Vineyard~to take court action against the Authority either by seperate suit or by interveneing in the so called Woods suit to force the authority to provide service and run the boats-as provided by statute. It was further suggested that we should in conj. with the Vine- yard look into the matter of trying to lease a boat for the summer. The Skipper, William Beers was granted a renewal of'its Common Vict. License. Chief Bartlett was granted permission to attend the Fire Chiefs Cony. June 19th thru 23rd. The Firemans Asso was granted a permit for a tag day.on 4 July. Mr. Gilbert Burchell Sr.'was appointed' a Sp. Police 'officer in connection with his beach cleaning dutie~ same having been approved by Chief Howes. Mr..C. George Anastos dba Nant. spa and Spa Cafe was grated- a renewal of his ent. permit for recorded music, radio and TV. Mr. David B. Rice dba The sandpiper formerl~ Ihe Quahog at 35 Main st. was granted a common vict. license with permit to remain open until 2A~ subject to approved of premises by Mr. Lamb. Sanitation Insp. A. Preston Manchester dba Upper Deck Rest. was grmted a renewal of his entertainment permit for Paino, weekdays and Sundays. Harbor House, was granted a renewal of its entertainment permit for live and recorded entertainment on weekdays and'sundays. There being no further business the Board went into executibe session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10.30 PM. Welfare:- '~[i' '"' '- " The applicatinn of Mrs Danforth age 85 for ~dmis'sion to Our Island Home was discussed and' tabled at this time.
