Pro Tem.- ,~ ~ ,, .., ,.,, Minutes of'the previous'meeting w~re~read-and =apProved. warrant No. 23,,totalling $40,$46,54 was presented bY Town Acct. Barrett and checked,and approvedby the'Board.., Mr. Robert Backus our Steamship Authority~Member Was present and outlined'for the Board what was~0ccuring with reference the~the-boat strike, stated that some progress'had been made 'with the licensed' personnall on the matters~of guaranteed. employment and other fringe benefits~but~that they still wanted a three year contract with no wage increase this~ear but 4% the 2nd'year and 4% the 3rd year.' The authority had voted to give.employees 48 hours notice to return to work or they would hire new men.to replace them. He felt that we should write.the authority and tell them that we felt all negotiations should stop immediately on the basis'that the authori%y had no right to enter into barginning neg- · otiations with employees.'It was voted to refer this matt~'r to the Town counsel for his opinion. Members of the Chamber Of Commerce were present-and Pr'esen~ed a petition or resolution for forwarding to the authority, Gov. Purcolo, and senators and representatives, and same was voted approved. ~ It was also ~ t~d to send .Telegrams to senat0rs'and Senate Ways and means 'committee urging passage of H1213. Mr.'W. Byron'Snow Stated he felt thai'the town should take. the steamboat wharf by eminent domain~and operate~its own boat line and,that a special town' meeting should be called for . .this purpose. Day.' , ,/~ ~- A request of 'the N~ntucket Gran~e for parking restrictions in the area near its hall on N. Liberty street was referred~ ~to thePolice Dept and Supt. of streets; Voted'to opeh the town and sc~nset comfort'stations on 15 June for the season. '~ ',. ,., :. Voted'to write the Planning Board a letter realtive to numbering 'of streets.,~' Street lights were approved on ~ose'land and on'the street at rear of Catholic church, N. Union. voted 'to write ihe harbor master with:reference t° the madak~t buoys on which we had no bids, and advise him to use 3/8" . chain and have this work done within the money available. ~-George Andrews to do the construction of the bugys and There'betng no fruther business the~board went into executive session and adj. at 10~30 PM. Executive session: Voted to execute a bill'of sale of~-property at Codfish Park Siasconset to one Ella"Williams to complete matter of record where the'town had moved her house to another lot given to~_the town by Ernest coffin, to be given to her in exchange for the lot.she previously occupied.
