Warrant No.','2l, totalling $54,14a.88 was 'presented by Town Acct. .Barrett and checked and approved, by the Board~ Minutes Of the.previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Roger Young Was present and thanked the Board for' ~ttending the Rotary luncheon for Cmdr.~Stephenson. Mr. Robert Christman was present and stated that he was rePresen ting the Ch. of Commerce and that th. ey had felt it would be a good idea in connection with the Main street sings to block off Main street from Pederal to Center every evening from 7 to 10 PM during the months of July and Aug. so thai people could stand in the street for the singing."Stated that he had contacted all the merchants and that they were in accord' with this idea. The Board discussed this matter at some len- gth and voted to table the matter for two weeks. 'Only one bid was received fo= compleiing the work called for in Art. 37, Cleaning of beaches and beach rubbish, same was from Gilbert Burchell Jr. in the amount of $2500.00. It was voted that he be awarded this job. A letter was received from a Cbs. Goeiz of Siasconset requesting a shield on a street light and voted referred to the Gas & Elec. Co for attention. Mr. Jesse Eldridge applied for a~Sp. Police permit and as is the policy.of the Board same was referred to the Chief of Police for his approval, .. Mr. Howard Hull and Mr~"Alfred C. Perry were granted Taxi permit: subject to procuring the proper insurance. A list Of equipment was received fr'om Walter F. Glowacki Sr.~ : '.- listing the hourly rate for each piece. As the Board could not determine whether this included the operator or not it was voted to inquire of this from Mr. Glowacki. Mr. Joseph'Perry et al dba Thirty Acres were granted a r~newal of their entertainment permit for recorded and live~enter-. tainment. A lette~ was~received~from the airport commission requesting the Board to'certify to'the $.tate and Pederal authorities that the new construction at the~airport would'be operated without~discrimination etc. Same was done and signed, by the Board. 'The Chamber of~comme~ce were granted approval for a sign at the steamboat wharf.area, subject to approvel as to form' by .the HDC. . / The Harbor Master ~reported that the'old Yankee'Moori~g would- be available for use as a guest mooring, with the only work necessary a cedar post. The Veterans Memorial Day Committee was granted a permit to parade under arms on May 30th. The Hist. Asso. was granted approval for a sign at Milk and New Dollar Lane, pointing out directions to 1890 house and old jail. On suggestion o~ Mr. Meilbye it was voted to send~a letter to Mr. Gelinas thanking him for his assistance in providing transportation during the strike. ~, ~' There being no fu'rther business'the Board went into executive session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10 PM. James K. Glidden~ Secy., Voted: Write Mr. Morris Telephone Co. complaining as to the poor telephone service. .. ' ...... ~ Voted: Write Cmdr. Stephenson'advising that we disliked trailers on the island but that there was no law.against them, but that as a board of.health we would insist'that any trailer used other ihan on'a temporary basis as'a home must be '' connected to an approved septic tank disposal.system or to the town sewer and must be provided with running water.
