HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-03-31 Board of Selectmen, Nantucket, Massachusetts Gentlemen Your communication of March 17 to Dmrector Adams has been referred to me As I understand the situation, you would like to have authority to extend the permits for the taking of scallops by the fishermen through the month of April for this reason that the adult scallops which are left after April 1st will die and it will be a benefit to your fishermen to be able to take them for commercial purposes throughout the above stated month As I further understand the situation, you have written for this privxlege after a vote had been taken of your Honorable Board, of which you are Secretary If this is l~he case, and as I under- stand the law, Chapter 130, sectmon 82, I do have the authority to make changes from time to time Therefore, I do authorize your Honorable Board to extend the permits to take scallops by the fmshermen through the month of April for the purpose of taking adult scallops for commercial reasons, and I will leave it to you to specify the amount that each man may take per day As to the appointment of Ur S~muel R Burchell as local shellfish inspector, I woul~ say that you are perfectly well within your rzghts to make this apoointment mn order to enforce any and all of the regulations that you wish to have enforced in the conservation of the shellfish industry //~/~ ~ Yours very truly,
