SHELLFISH REGULATIONS
For the Town of Nantucket Adopted-~ by the Selectmen March 24 1931
Under authority delegated to the Selectmen by the Annual
Town Meeting February 16 1931 (Article 12) and m comphance
vath Chapter 130 Section 84 of the General Laws and amend
ments thereto the Selectmen have adopted the following regula
tlons for the control of the shell fisheries of Nantucket
Section 1--No person shall take from the waters of Nantucket clams,
quahaugs eels or scallops for commercial purposes without a permit Issued
by the Selectmen as the public welfare may require
Section 2~A permit for the taking of clams quahaugs and eels shall
extend for a Period of one year from April 1st to March 31st
Section 3---No clams shall be taken from the seed area known as the l
Town clam preserve in Polpis Harbor until such time as the Selectmen In[

Section 4~The permit for taking scallops covers the period from No-
vember 1st to March 31st

iron oar or any similar device requiring the use of any power hoisting de-

Section 6---Any wolation of Sections 1-~,-3-4 o-r~ s~hMl I~ punisl~aol~
by a fine of not less than $3 00 nor more than $50 00 or by loss of license
for one year or by both such fines and loss of license
~ Section ?~The fee for license to operate under the above regulations
is $2 00
Section 8~The state law regarding the issuing of [,ermits to aliens will
be strictly adhered to ~' -~ -~

Section 80--Except as provided in sections seventy nine and eighty two
no person shall take scallops between April first and October first from the
fiats and waters of the commonwealth or buy or sell or have m possession
scallops so taken but this section shall not apply to the taking of scallops
for bait ~n the waters adlacent to the town of Nantucket from April first
to May fifteenth inclusive nor shall it apply to the taking of scallops by hand

Section 84 A--No permit for the taking of shellfish for commercial
