HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-07-02 Sune 30 1930 I~PORTANT NOTICE To the Disbursing Officers of State and Military Aid and Soldiers Relief Gentlemen - I deem it advisable to oring to your attention a very important act entitled Chapter 186 Acts of 1930· of the ~assachusetts Legislature which will ~o into effect July §j 1930, and whxch aims to increase the State Aid allowance ~ranted to veterans and their dependents from $6 O0 to $10 00 a month, but not more than $20 00 to the dependents of any one veter~u In order to expedite action on the above-mentioned law so that beneficiaries may derive prompt benefits from same you are hereby per~itted to increase those cases of State Aid now on your rolls who in your Judgment are in need of this a~ount and allow $9 00 for the month of July, and $10 00 a month from August subject however to any former limitations that may have been set by this office In view of the fact that the law will not become operative until July § 1930 cannot permit the payment of the full amount of $10 00 on the July rolls hence our reason for allowing the payment of $9 00 for July I would also refer you to the following Acts of 1930 Chapter 110 which went into effect June 11 makes it possible for a widow and children or a dependent father or mother of a deceased veteran to receive Soldiers Relief where they were heretofore refused same because the veteran was the victim of his own criminal or wilful misconduct Therefore the above-noted dependent relatives of deceased veterans are eligible for such Soldiers~ Relief as may be necessary for their support from the place of legal settlement regardless of the cause of the death of the veteran Chapter 192 which will become operative July 8 ~akes crippled blind or helpless children of veterans whether minors or adults eligible to receive Soldiers Relief from the place of their settlement if they are in receipt of U S Pension Chapter 195 which took effect upon its passage extends the benefits of the Military Aid law to ~assachusetts veterans receiving treatment in the U S Naval Hospital Newport Rhode Island provided that they are hos~italized by the U S Veterans Bureau and are not in receipt of Government compensation Chapter 233 which will become operative Jul~ 18 extends the date of marriage eligibility for widows of veterans of the Spanish-A~erican ~ar and the Philippine Insurrection so that said widows may oo~e under the provisions of the State Aid and burial law if married to the veteran prior to September I 19~ Will you kindl~ call the attention of Tour burial a~ents to this ch~n~e in the burial law?
