Home My WebLink About_12122017-5710Town Government Study Committee Minutes of the meeting of December 12, 2017. The meeting took place in the Public Safety Facility Training Room, 4 Fairgrounds Road, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the committee present were: Rick Atherton, John Brescher, Penny Dey, and Linda Williams. Absent: Kristie Flaherty, Tucker Holland and Missy. Also Present: 1. Co-chair John Brescher called the meeting to order at 1:37. 2.Agenda: Linda W. made a motion to approve, seconded by Rick A. All voted in favor. 3.Minutes: The minutes of the November meeting are not yet available. 4.Discussion of Charter Review Assignments: Rick and Penny discussed their sections (1, 2 and 3) and submitted a report as requested. Some discussion of length of terms for the Moderator Section 2.2) and Board of Selectmen (Section 3.1). To be discussed further with the entire committee. Also discuss further having a separate Licensing Commission. Audit committee – discuss revising the structure of membership (to include two community members at large with audit experience). The goal would be to put distance between those being audited and the auditors. 5.The previous Charter Committee/Town Government Study Committee report was reviewed by Kristie and Missy who submitted a written reported. We opted to wait until they were in attendance to discuss. 6.Kristie, Missy, Linda, Tucker and John will report back at the January meeting with their findings. 7.Other Business: Penny suggested a draft timeline for the next 6 months outlining our goals and objectives, meeting schedule and visitor schedule. Ask Town Counsel to attend the meeting in February and the Town Manager to attend the March meeting. Linda recommended that we ask Jack Gardner to attend a future meeting as well. 8.Next meeting: January 9, 2018 at 1:30, same location. 9.Motion was made by Linda W. to adjourn, seconded by Rick A.
