Town Government Study Committee
Minutes of the meeting of August 8, 2017. The meeting took place in the Town Hall Conference Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the committee present were Rick Atherton, John
Brescher, Penny Dey, Kristie Flaherty Ferrantella, Tucker Holland, Melissa Murphy. Linda Williams was absent. Also present was Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson.
1. Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson called the meeting to order at 1:05 PM.
2. Review of Committee Charge. Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson reviewed documents of interest to the committee; the committee and
Ms. Gibson discussed on topics to be discussed at the committee’s meetings, groups to invite to the meeting, and the goals and responsibilities of the committee.
3. Review of Open Meeting Law; Town Administration. Ms. Gibson recommended the committee to review the Open Meeting Law, the Town Code, Massachusetts General Law acceptances, Town Meeting Warrants for the last three years. Ms. Gibson answered questions
from the committee members.
4. Election of Officers.
Mr. Atherton moved to nominate Mr. Brescher and Ms. Murphy as co-chairs; Ms. Dey seconded. So voted, 6-0. Ms. Dey was assigned as the committee minute taker.
5. Schedule Next Meeting. The committee agreed on scheduling a second meeting for September. No dates were discussed.
6. New/Other Business. None.
7. Adjournment. Mr. Atherton moved to adjourn at 1:39 PM; Co-Chair Brescher seconded. So voted, 6-0.
