We are so excited to send her off with warm-wishes into her next adventure as Human Services Director for the Town of Nantucket. In her place, the Island Home has welcomed licensed certified social worker Ally Rowell as the new Activities Director. Ally has lived on Nantucket for a year and a half, and previously worked as an outpatient therapist at Fairwinds – Nantucket’s Counseling Center. Ally has loved becoming a part of the Nantucket community and is excited to integrate her background in art therapy into the ongoing programming that is offered to the Home’s amazing residents. Following the resignation of former Administrator Brett Lennerton in mid-January, the Island Home is happy to welcome back Rachel Day as Interim Administrator until a long-term replacement is found. EVENT SPOTLIGHT Just around the corner is Our Island Home’s annual Valentine’s Dance with the Coast Guard, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11th, from 4 – 5 pm in the OIH dining room. We hope that you can join us! FRIEND AND FAMILY UPDATE: Julia Marks Julia is the great-niece of one of our very own residents at Our Island Home and helped make our holiday season special by fundraising with her freshman class at Nantucket High School. 1) What gave you the idea to fundraise for resident Christmas presents, and how did you determine what to buy? “The freshman class advisor had an idea of giving out gift baskets [for Christmas]. I thought that it would be even better if we went around and asked what [the residents] would like.” 2) How did you go about earning the funds? “We raised half of the money that we spent at December Delights and the rest came from the freshman class fund.” 3) How did it go when you came in and distributed the gifts? “When we came in to deliver [the gifts], we went around to people who were in the activity room and gave them their gift…[Then] we went and brought gifts to [residents in] their rooms.” 4) What do you like most about visiting Our Island Home? “When I come to the Island Home, I just love to see all the ladies getting their nails done or their hair. I think that is something that a lot of the ladies enjoy, and I find it so nice that you are able to give them that little treat.” Thank you, Julia, and the rest of the freshman class at Nantucket High, for your incredible generosity!
