In attendance were committee members Anne Kuzspa, H. Flint Ranney, Whitey Willauer, Ian Golding, and Zachary Dusseau; the Town’s Alternative Energy Outreach Coordinator Lauren Sinatra; Assistant Town Manager Gregg Tivnan, and a member of the public: Tobias Glidden Agenda and Minutes were approved unanimously. Public discussion concerning possibility of joining the Martha’s Vineyard Power Cooperative as a way to reduce power cost for the Island. Tobias suggested he could follow up, see what would be involved and report back to the committee. Lauren Sinatra reported on a meeting with Citizens Energy Group that also might be able to bring lower power costs to the Island at no cost to us. Tobias and Lauren agreed to work together to see if this group would be appropriate for an association. Zack said that the solar projects were still in process, with HDC asking about reflections (!) from solar panels (they are designed to absorb light, not reflect it). There are more meetings to come. Anne said that George Aronson has a problem with the Nantucket Energy Plan regarding how data was gathered. She and George will work with the WPI students and the BOS to re-solve issues. Whitey announced that the HDC had approved the Madaket Turbines and that he had met with the Madaket and Fishers Landing homeowners to answer questions. The noise level of the planned turbines will be below the Town mandated limits (45 db) except at one spot at the Land Bank property (52 db). His next meetings are with the ZBA and National Grid on net metering. Regarding Smart Grid, Ian Golding expressed some reservations and will look into the downside of such a program, particularly as regards security. We expect the WPI students to be on island from early October through Thanksgiving. They will be kept busy by Whitey and Peter Morrison working on Interval Data and revisiting and tweaking the Energy Plan. Tobias wondered if there were ways in which the NESC might be proactive in assisting local residents in finding out more about costs and installation of solar power and hot water to reduce energy bills. Whitey suggested such ideas might be added into the Energy Plan, also including the question of heating of sum-mer homes all winter. Zack advised that a global mobilization event that everyone can get involved with--”a single day to move beyond fossil fuels” will be held on September 24 (see www.350.org) and he and Ian will see if they can generate interest on Nantucket. Meeting adjourned at 6:25PM. Respectfully submitted, DRAFT H. Flint Ranney, Secretary
