She also reported that Barbara Gookin spoke to the School Superintendent offering the support of the NEC if he needed it in the future. Dr. Willauer stated that an online record of the turbine’s production data is in the works. $36K/ year of savings is anticipated from running this turbine. The WPI Smart Grid group led by Mary Hesler reported the group obtained 2001 consumption data from the DOER for Nantucket. The students believe it is optimistic to assume 50% of the island would switch to smart grid technology, realistic to assume 20% would switch, and pessimistic to assume 10% of the island would switch. The WPI Electric Car group led by Zachary Lorch reported on their studies. The majority of the people they surveyed favored electric car charging stations on the island. Taxis did not seem feasible candidates as they have a 4 year lifespan and 6 years is required for payback. Don Allen says they will be getting 4-10 electric vehicles this year and is willing to have a charging station at their dealership. Cape Air is interested in becoming “greener”. Professor Dominic Golding relayed the WPI students will be presenting their findings on December 14th and will finish their stay on Nantucket December 17th. Peter Morrison presented information on Wind Amplified Rotor Platforms. Dr. Willauer suggested we ask the (Madaket Turbine) Design and Build Team their opinion of the technology before we explore it further. Anne Kuszpa reported the Board of Selectmen voted against accepting the Climate Action Plan as present-ed by Sustainable Nantucket. Mike Burns expressed discontent that the Energy Committee was portrayed as backing the plan. It was decided that Mr. Burns would draft a memo to the BOS stating the Energy Committee would like to work with the Planning Department to tailor a plan more specific to Nantucket. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:45 PM. Respectfully submitted, Anne Kuszpa, Chairmanfor H. Flint Ranney, Secretary
