We’d fish for herring out at first bridge with a dip nets the tide came in. We used to have so much fun! We’d turn the dip net inside out, get bendy sticks to keep the bag open and tie it off to make a trap. We’d belly crawl on the bank with a flashlight, hear them and run ‘em up. Worked every time! Then we’d cut the tail and collect the spawn. $3/quart is what we’d get. So we’d get about 10 quarts of spawn which meant $30, a lot of money back then… -Mousey We kept some for home. Mom used to roll the spawn in cornmeal and cook in hot grease. Family Council: Wednesday, January 15th, 10 am.
