Staff Retirement
We would like to announce the
retirement of Patty Dargie, RN
after 37 years of service to Our
Island Home. In her years here
Patty has served hundreds of
residents. She also worked in
several nursing capacities, from
charge nurse to MDS
Coordinator. She is pictured
below, 3rd from the left, with
veteran OIH nurses Ellie
McVicker, Carol Matson, Diane
Ryder, Priscilla Worswick and
Ann Lindley.
Thanksgiving Reminder
If you are planning on taking your
family member out on
Thanksgiving, or joining us for the
Thanksgiving meal, please see
Activities staff or the charge nurse.
Staff Profile: Tina Crane
Welcome back to OIH, Tina! Tina
Crane has returned to Our Island
Home as the Executive Assistant to
the Director of Nursing. From 2013
to 2017 Tina worked at OIH in
housekeeping and as a nurse’s aid.
Residents and staff are thrilled to
have her back in her new role. Tina
shares, “I missed the residents and
my coworkers so much I just
couldn’t stay away for long! When I
walked back in, I truly felt like I was
home.”
Resident Portraiture
Local Nantucket photographer
Barbara Clarke is offering her
portraiture services free of
charge to OIH residents. If you
would like to schedule group or
individual portraits for your
friend or family residing at OIH,
please contact Taylor Hilst at
thilst@nantucket-ma.gov to
schedule an appointment.

Employee of the Month
Debbie Bechtold
Our Dietician has been with Our
Island Home since 1997! In addition
to that role, Debbie is always willing
to help other departments. This
summer, she provided the
transportation for the Wheelers
biking program!
Volunteers of the Month
Peggy Conway
Peggy is one of our best “friendly
visitor” volunteers. She provides 1:1
companionship and friendship to
residents of OIH- she brings us so
much joy!
Family Council: November 20th, 10
am.
Nanpuppets: Lizza Obremeski
will bring us her puppet show
on November 20th! This is her
6th (and final, for now!)
performance at OIH, all of
which have been funded by the
Nantucket Cultural Council and
the Mass Cultural Council.
Boys and Girls Club: The NBGC is
coming to visit with our residents
on Wednesday, November 20th at
4pm during the Nanpuppets
performance.
Early Childhood Playgroup:
Facilitated by Susan Richards of
Nantucket Community School,
Monday mornings at 10:30 am.
Upcoming Live Musical Talent:
Mollie Glazer: classical piano on
November 4th and 25th.
Jim Sulzer: classical guitar on
November 6th.
Steve Tornovish: guitar,
harmonica and maybe some
karaoke on November 7th and 13th!
4 EZ Payments: one of
Nantucket’s best local bands will
be playing for us on November 8th!
(All music performances begin at
4pm, in the OIH living room).
Susan Berman: plus her partner
Ray, on November 14th and 27th.
The potential for a new OIH on the
current site: The team at LWDA is
working with the Town of
Nantucket and stakeholders on a
feasibility study for future options
for Our Island Home. For more

Residents eagerly awaiting Patty’s
arrival to her retirement party! We
had a blast celebrating her. A huge
thank you to our kitchen staff for the
amazing party food!
