Dear Mr. Carlson, and members of the Con Com,
We will not be able to attend the scheduled meeting on August 28th, to express to the ConCom our deep concerns about where the last great hope to save our home stands. Please
forward this letter to the members of the Con Com and into the agenda. After reviewing thesituation of our home, with professional coastal engineer's, we have concluded that it will not
survive the winter in it's present position. We are going forward with a move, forward andnorthward to buy us perhaps a year in hopes the project will be approved.
The SBPF revetment project application, in the behalf of Baxter Road, Sconset residents,
has been engineered by the best coastal engineering minds available on the East Coast andfinanced mainly by the residents. It's opposition by persons without coastal engineering
backgrounds, with tales of "disaster to adjoining areas", is without merit. We do notunderstand the continued opposition, after the SBPF has been on "bended knee", providing
information to you and the doubters, in response to the many questions, which have beenanswered in depth, and with data to back it up. We can only assume that they are being paid
by unknown parties, with unrealistic agendas????as it does not make common sense.
The impact of a no vote is far reaching. As you know, the assessed tax base, has been hitvery hard over the years, due to the reduction of property values, to the $63 million already
lost and the probable additional loss of another $187 million on the east side of Baxter Road. The loss to the Island goes much further. Think of the loss of jobs to Island trades: Care
takers, gardeners, cleaners, plumbers and electricians. If the houses go, so do the jobs.
We are lucky enough to have a lot next door, that our house can be moved to. We nowhave 11 feet of clearance from the edge of the bluff. Moving it will give us at the least, 22
feet at one coroner, to 30 feet directly to the rear. Not much, considering what happened thelast two years. We decided to make the move, because we believe that you, the members of
the Con Com, have the best interests of the village of Sconset and Island at heart. We knowit is a very big decision to allow SBPF project to go forward, but one you can feel good
about in the end. Building the revetment will provide the long term stability of our location,long into the future, so our children and grandchildren can enjoy it as we have.
We are relying on you to "Save our house" and Sconset as we know it..
