AIRPORT COMMISSION MEETING
April 2, 2013
The meeting was called to order at 6:07 PM by Chairman Daniel W. Drake with the following
Commissioners present: Vice Chair Arthur D. Gasbarro, and Sonny Raichlen. Commissioner
Jeanette Topham joined the meeting at 6:27 PM. Commissioner David C. Gray, Sr. S was absent.
Also present was Thomas Rafter, Airport Manager.
The meeting took place in the Auditorium of the Nantucket High School, 10 Surfside Road
concurrently with the Annual Town Meeting of the Town of Nantucket.
The Commission Unanimously M/S/P approval of the Agenda.
In anticipation of floor discussion on Article 71 proposing a non-binding resolution for the
Airport Commission to install a photo-voltaic solar system to reduce the airport’s reliance on
electricity produced by fossil fuels, upon which the Finance Committee had moved to take no
action, Mr. Gasbarro moved and Mr. Raichlen seconded a motion to support the recommendation
of the Finance Committee to take no action on Article 71. During the ensuing discussion, it was
noted:
1. The Airport’s Master Planning process, currently underway, will examine all renewable
energy source options; and,
2. The FAA currently has a moratorium in place on the installation photo-voltaic arrays at
airports pending the issuance of new regulations.
The motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:11 PM.
