OTHER BUSINESS (for topics not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting) Nabulsi – Was contacted by a resident who is requesting the Town to install a stop sign at the intersection of Butterfly Lane and Sankaty Road in ‘Sconset, as well as a crosswalk across Sankaty Road. The matter will be added to a future agenda. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of December 6, 2011 were approved by the unanimous consent of the meeting. IV.OLD BUSINESS 1. Revisit recommendation regarding widening Monomoy Road; discuss posting as “no parking” Documentation Emails from Louis Gerstner; email from Natural Resources Coordinator; map Presentation Mooney – At the September meeting the consensus of the group was to widen the portion of Monomoy Road in front of Frazier house to allow for parking. Mr. Gerstner has indicated that he is not in favor of widening the road and would like to see it posted as “no parking/fire lane”. Looking for a final recommendation to present to Town Manager Libby Gibson. Public None Discussion Nabulsi – Reviewed the area and feel cannot widen on Frazier side of road. Also, there are mature cedar trees on opposite side that he would hate to cut down. Feels can trim brush in existing parking lot providing 2-3 more spaces. Also suggest posting Frazier side of road “no parking”. McDougall – agree with Nabulsi. Some discussion followed. Mooney – Would like to see corner of parking lot cleared and portion of Monomoy Road widened. Action Pittman – motion to recommend widening portion of Monomoy Road and clear brush in parking lot as discussed; Gasbarro seconded. So voted 5-1 (Nabulsi opposed). VI. (We were on island, and it was wonderful). Is a good time to talk about the Butterfly and Sankaty intersection. While I assume it would be difficult to put stop signs on Sankaty, I was wondering if it were possible to at least put cross walks on the road (and perhaps a sign indicating pedestrians or children crossing)? If there is a convenient time we can talk this week, please let me know. I feel The Town of Nantucket should consider placing a pedestrian crosswalk on Nobadeer Farm road in front of Small Friends. I walk my children home almost every day from the Public School bus stop (which picks up on the Trading Post side of the street) and I have noticed on many occasions parents with small children trying to cross the street from Small Friends as well as The Nantucket New School. They struggle to get the attention of drivers so that they can cross safely. Many older kids also use this same crossing on their way to and from the Delta fields for field hockey or soccer. It is a very busy road and the close proximity of two schools and a neighborhood full of families necessitates a crosswalk. I have spoken to Erica Mooney and she has said this request may be able to make to your March agenda. Thank you for your consideration.
