HomeMy WebLinkAboutBoard of Health Meeting Minutes - 05 28 2008_201402051537448802 BOARD OF HEALTH TOWN OF NANTUCKET MINUTES – MAY 28, 2008 NANTUCKET SUPERIOR COURTROOM MEMBERS PRESENT: Acting Chairman Kopko, Mr. Reinhard, Ms. Roggeveen, Mr. Chadwick, and Mr. Atherton MEMBERS ABSENT: None. Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. AGENDA 1. Any concerns from the public? None noted. 2. Approval of Minutes of April 23, 2008 unanimously. 3. Review and determination of legal bills for Reis Trucking C&D transfer station – continuation from May 21, 2008. Ms. Roggeveen still has some concerns. Mr. Kopko suggests splitting costs (50/50) with the applicant. Unanimous approval to have town counsel’s bill vote delayed for another week. BOH questions (to Libby) for town counsel. Variance Request 1. 9 & 11 Rhode Island Ave. – well relocation variance request. HO Ray recommends granting variance – meeting maximum feasible compliance. Variance request approved unanimously. 2. 33 New Hampshire Ave. – This is a preliminary BOH approval of a tight tank. House will be moved and will have to move septic (install tight tank) due to size constraints of lot (erosion). HO Ray recommends the granting of a 2000 gallon tight tank. Variance request approved unanimously. 3. 9 Midland Ave – repair of a failed septic system – meeting maximum feasible compliance. HO Ray recommends granting variance. Variance request approved unanimously. BOARD OF HEALTH -2- MAY 28, 2008 Other Business 1. HO Ray presents emergency preparedness to BOH along with Sean O’Brien who works with 23 communities on the Cape and islands on emergency preparedness, Tina Holloway, Nurse Practitioner’s power point presentation for emergency preparedness for the Cape and islands and Lynda Costa who discusses the Medical Reserve Corps and the volunteers needed in the community. HO Ray is looking for volunteers in community (medical and non-medical) for a variety of assignments. Community members can phone the Nantucket Health Department at 508-228-7226. Volunteers are also needed to serve on a Steering Committee. 2. Licensed Caterers – The Health Department wants to track caterers in the community and wants to list licensed caterers in local paper during the summer months. HO Ray also suggests using the web page, too. CV License needed. Acting Chairman Kopko agreeable to that suggestion. 3. Water Quality/Beach Sampling – The Health Department routinely sampled 19 beaches (weekly). Monthly testing of some beaches is now possible with the state’s approval due to the cleanliness of past beach testing and sewer improvements that have been made. The weekly testing that will remain in place consists of: Sesachacha Pond, Miacomet Pond, 40th Pole, Dionis, Washington Street Beach and Children’s Beach. Monthly testing of all others will take place. 4. BOH discusses instituting a separate BOH. It was determined further discussion as to format, make-up and staffing of a separate BOH should occur as we progress towards the annual Town Meeting. BOH adjourns at 7:10 p.m.
