HomeMy WebLinkAboutBoard of Health Meeting Minutes - 04 23 2008_201402051537448021 BOARD OF HEALTH TOWN OF NANTUCKET MINUTES – APRIL 23, 2008 NANTUCKET SUPERIOR COURTROOM MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Chadwick, Mr. Kopko, Mr. Reinhard, Mr. Atherton MEMBERS ABSENT: Ms. Roggeveen Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. AGENDA 1. No concerns from the public noted. 2. BOH Minutes of March 26, 2008 approved 4-0. 3. Variances – HO Ray explained that the increase the Board was noticing in Madaket variances is due to the inspections and repair program within the Madaket Harbor Watershed Area. This trend will continue in the near future. HO Ray updated the Board relative to distance requirements mandated within the local and state regulations and how they affect the undersized properties in Madaket. A brief review of the estuaries programs goals and objectives was discussed. 273 Madaket Rd. – Variance Request – approved 4-0 with no provisions. 58 Starbuck Rd. – Variance Request – approved 4-0 with no provisions 7 Oakland Street – Variance Request – approved 4-0 with no provisions 54 Tennessee Ave. – Variance Request – approved 4-0 with no provisions 52 Meadowview Dr. – Variance Request – approved 4-0 with the provision that the inlet and outlet covers of the septic tank be brought to grade. 4. Discussion of proposed separate Board of Health – After a brief discussion, HO Ray was asked to provide recommendations concerning a proposed make-up of the new board addressing the numbers of board members, qualifications, term limits, etc. 5. Updates – Carmody (alternative design septic system tracking software) HO Ray noted Nantucket’s acceptance into Barnstable County Carmody Septic System BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES -2- APRIL 23, 2008 Tracking Program with no resultant charges to the town. This program will be phased in during mid to late summer of 2008. 6. Zoonotic Disease – HO Ray offered a public reminder concerning tick borne diseases and other insect related diseases resulting from exposure to ticks and mosquitoes. HO Ray announced that on June 2, 2008, the West Nile Virus Dead Bird Reporting System will become effective. This program tests dead birds for West Nile Virus within local communities. Crows, Blue Jays, and large Hawks only will be tested this year. If one of the above dead birds is found, and is determined to be deceased for less than 24 hours, the Nantucket Health Department should be called for carcass pickup. The BOH adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
